took the 22/250 out with the new redfield 4X12 and put it on paper today. The colored target is 50 gr v-max at 100 yards thats what I was using to zero in the scope. The other three are at 200 yards. I was shooting off the bench but only with a shooting bag. A slight breeze to the right. It looks like all the bullets/loads have a very similar POI. We set up some 4" clay pidgins way out at 350 yards and shot. The 36 gr fell way short and I didn't hit any, the B-king and v-max shot about the same with a slight edge to the blitzeking. I shot 10 shells ( after a few to get the range) and hit 8 pidgins. My buddy took 10 shots ( after a few range shots) to hit 6 pidgins with his AR and a 6X24 scope. I put the cross hears JUST on top of the targets, the AR was shooting a 40 gr around the 4000 fps range, he had to put about a foot on the targets.[/size]

Are you new to this cartridge and reloading?
My friend has a 22-250.....a real old Remington bolt (Maybe a 788?)
We bought a few boxes of 55 grain factory loads about 10 years ago and mounted a nice 4 x 12 Leupold on the gun which had been in a closet for 20 years. We disasembled and totally cleaned the gun and put her back together. Accuracy at 100 yds was nothing sort of horrible - 3-4 inch groups. Somehow we ran across a box of Federal 40 gr HP's and tried them for the heck of it and WOW...1/2 inch groups.
This prompted me to buy a box of 40 gr Nosler BT's and handload a few different powder combo's. Settled on 40 gr H380 and this bullet and the gun shoots lights out and speeds are about 3,900 fps.
I am not sure on the twist rates that the older guns used...or what the newer ones have for that matter. However, we assumed the gun must have a twist to slow to use the 55gr+ bullets.
I have always loved this cartridge going back to my childhood days when I tagged along with these 2 guys my dads age who were woodchuck hunting machines (my dad doesn't hunt) One had a very heavy bull barrel 22-250 the other had a medium bull .243. Both custom built and both with very long Unertl scopes and double set triggers. I can remember many long shots by these guys and as a youngster, they made an impression on me. The only load details that I remember was that the 22-250 used 55 gr HP's and the 243 used 75 gr HP's....
Enjoy the shooting

Are you new to this cartridge and reloading? Enjoy the shooting To the cartridge yes, not reloading or shooting , 35 years under the belt on that! The 223 is our normal varmint table fair. We were shooting a 36 gr at 4300 fps but it was exploding on the out side of a heavily haired coyote. I am looking for a heaver bullet to extend the range. The twist is 1-14 it's a "T/C" and is VERY accurate from the git go. A 55 or 60 gr will be the next test but I have to try the 50's out on some real world targets ( coyotes and prairie dogs) be for I move on. The B-king are going at 3900 and the v-max at about 3800 the point of impact is relatively the same. I'll try some 400 and 500 yard test as soon as I catch a calm day...

Slugger, I also use a .222 Rem for most varmint shooting. I agree with Wilms, H-380 IS the .22/250 powder. I have a 700 Rem that has a 1/14" twist. It will stabilize 60gr HP Sierras, but not 60gr Hornadys. I shoot 40gr H-380 with the 60gr Sierra at 3540fps. You have a case capacity nearly that of a .243 so you may as well let it utilize the charge by going to a 60gr bullet. Careful, in my experience, a breakaction WILL NOT take the stiff loads that a bolt rifle will. I always had to drop down 2-3 grs to get a friends break action to extract. They are just too flimsy. Good Shooting!
