Hi guys, just bought a new 50 caliber Savage ML-11 and have a question on sabots. I've learned so far that a tight load is critical, after having a miss fire using some sabots that I had. I then measured one of the sabots that was sent w/ the rifle which measured .506" and the one that miss fired was .503" using a micrometer. The sabot that miss fired was the Harverster rib type which I thought was the ones that were recommended. I measure them where the bullet is. question is is there any way to know what the diameter of the sabots are before buying them with say the .452 bullet. The sabots that I have since they measure several thousands small could I then go up to the .458" bullet w/ them? Thanks and glad you guys take the time to write the info down that is in this website.

welcome Curt, the smooth harv sabot will be a tighter fit with the .452 bullets. You are correct about the Crush rib sabot and the .458 bullets IIRC. Read on and ask away. Lotta folks here who want to help, Rusty

Welcome to the board. I think you will find all the answers to all the questions that surface about the ML. Also, I invite you to chime in on any of the other sections. In the tips and hints section there is a world of good information. As indicate in a previous post the sabot is just one of many possible causes for a problem. Again, a warm welcome. Ozark

Welcome Curt..what color of crush ribbed were you using? If it was the black crush rib, .452 dia bullets with this combo will be to loose. The BCR is typically used with .458 dia bullets although it is packaged for .452 dia bullets. You will find the RCR/smooth are better suited for .452 bullets. And as has been advised post your tech questions on the main board for quicker responses...
