Hi All, Hopefully someone can help I recently purchased an Old Style Savage 10ML. Upon inspection I noticed the plunger and extractor assembly in the bolt face were removed. You must grasp the module by hand to remove it from the breach plug My question is this: Is this rifle supposed to hace this assembly or was it removed at the factory (Savage tech did not know)? Also what sights were used on this rifle? Does anyone have a copy of the owners manual they could fax or e-mail me? Your help is greatly appreciated

I do not think the manual will help as Savage doesn't like people taking apart bolts. If everything is missing there is a spring, a ball and the extractor, which looks like a rectangle, then on the other side is a spring, a pin and the plunger which is the ejector. If you use the parts finder on the Savage website it might give you the parts but they use to have a "gunsmith only" policy on bolt and trigger parts. You can call Fred at SSS and he should have the parts. Those 6 parts will run you a tad under $30 (at least the last time I bought them). I think Midway also has all the parts you need and may be a tad cheaper. I have lost my share of extractor balls and used to keep spares around but I'm out.

Savage will sell you those "Gunsmith only" parts but you must fax them a liability release. I know.........been there/done that within the past two months. Richard

Tucker, I have one and it definitily is mounted on the bolt it will pull the module out of the breechplug just like a rifle cartridge. I'm not exactly sure of all that your missing, but i'm sure you don't have the extractor. Hope this helps. Greenhorn

Thats it!!! I am indeed missing the extractor/ ejection assemblies I am from Canada so cannot order from Midway...go figure Found the parts locally so I am on my way
Last question: I don't suppose someone knows the part #'s for the factory front and rear sight. The fellow I purchased the rifle from had a set of the williams fiber optic sights installed but the front sight onl fits backwards. I would like to get the gun back to original state.
Is there a source for additional modules and vent liners that will ship to Canada?
Your help is greatly appreciated!!!!!

Williams was the manufacturer. You would be better off with the factory style fiber optics if your going to use them. The fiber optics were added mid-late 2001 on the 10ML-II.

A side note on the fiber optic sites...a lot of times the front optic fiber will come loose and fall out. A little clear silicon ensures this does not happen.

Savage will sell you the part. I bought one for my LRH about six months ago. Just call them with card in hand, you will have your part in 3-5 days. They have never asked questions when I have ordered parts from them, but this has been in the last five years.

Oooh! , if you have the spring and extractor, you can use a #6 steel shot. Thats what mine has in it. it too is the old style, Mine flew somewhere never ever to be seen again, at about 1000 fps when I removed the extractor to clean gunk out.

You Guys amazing!!! The sights that came with the gun were the fiberoptics from an MLII. The front sight is too long in front of the screwhole (it hangs over the front of the bbl approx 1/4") The sight needs to be turned around backwards to fit and looks awful. I will not formally use the sights but they will be good for backup in the advent of a scope failure. From what I can tell the sights off an old Savage mdl 10 rifle will fit but I want to make sure before I begin to search for a set.

The extractor ball is just a 1/8" ball (.125"). Sometimes you can luck out.
I do not think there was a change on the front sight ramp. There is a difference in the early blue barrels that had the hole drilled about 3/4" back from the muzzle face, the later barrels had the hole drilled about 1.25" back. On the factory front sight ramp the screw is under front sight blade. There was a different sight put on the model 10 scout rifles.
