I have a friend and fellow shooter/hunter that owns a full service machine shop with lots of CNC equipment that tells me YES! He will build me and whoever a perfect bullet. He has built center fire bullets in the past for his personel use. He,s a real go getter and wants to build his business. He might even invest in an injection molder for sabots if the bullet business is there. He also has the equipment to aneal and temper. There is probably enough expertise on this site to design the perfect bullet. Any body willing to try? Personaly I am most interested in a .40 cal for a ,45cal sabot approx 200 grain with a bc of .300. Anybody got the skill to design a bullet? Anybody have a scorce of ballistic tips? Any body got a clue as to the bullet market quanity. Lets hear from you folks and let's get it rollin! Wayles

Wayles, if your friend could produce a .400, 200gr, .300bc accurate bullet that was at least comparable in price with Barnes 195, people here would certainly buy it!! One of the main reasons many of us went to the .45 was less recoil of 200gr bullets. Even at 45 caliber, 200gr bullets are practically overkill out to a couple hundred yards at smokeless velocities. We don't really need more weight, but a better bc bullet.

Lookin at all copper, maybe a very light knurl flat base, large hollow point cavity, large dia. /long ballistic tip. The weight may have to come up a little to achive a high BC. Ballistic tip for BC and expansion, anealed to make it soft and as long as it needs to be which will take some expmentin on my part, Will have to stay with in bounds of the sabot. The men on one of the other threads have done considerable work on a bullet maybe a little heavier. Will probably will have use the cnc lathe to turn out some polycarb. tips. Will go over to the other thread as suggested. Did not want to butt in before. Wayles

A .400" to .357" sabot would be just fabulous. All us 40 shooters would buy them for sure. There is lots of excellent relatively high BC .357 bullets to choose from.

I have some ideas I'm playing with and would love to get a small run made to see how they play out in real world testing. Do you think your buddy would be interested in this? Shoot me a pm with his contact info if you think he would please

If he's making them in his shop, then I would guess they are a solid copper projectile. A turned solid copper bullet is not a good option for a hunting bullet.
