I keep hearing about Deep Curls made by Speer, supposed to be somewhat like a GoldDot. Anyone ever tried them for any caliber?

I believe they are a gold dot, just re-named. Some time back I asked them how their 250gr .452 would hold up at smokeless speeds, specifically on high speed hard impacts at close range. They said they thought the bullet would over-expand, but drive through and not be found. I never got around to trying them as I got a barnes to do what I want (thor), but I really like how they look (see my avatar), barnes like without separation due to the bonding process and it's very hard to argue with their price.
They recommended their .458 300gr version, as it was a rifle bullet designed for the .45/70 and built for the speed ranges I was asking about (2300 fps).

I haven't played with them yet but from what I understand they are trying to use their plating technology to make a bullet like the Grand Slam. It appears to be a follow up on the Fusion line. So far I have heard good things on the Fusions but one of the problems in plating is when you start getting thick you run into consistency problems which result in balancing problems.

I'm really not looking to go over 200 grain, maybe 230. I want to try them with BH209 though so I won't be reaching that speed.
Where's a good place to order some price wise?
Thanks,
Don

I believe I got mine when everybody was out of everything from an obscure on-line vendor I don't even remember. If midway or midsouth have them, they should be competitively priced.

Am I correct in assuming they don't make the Deep Curl in .40 cal? I didn't see them anyway. I'm not advanced enough for the sabotless game yet, and I'm shooting .45s right now.

Ok, maybe this isn't the direction I need to go for the Blackhorn .45 . I'm trying to find something that's economic to shoot and hunt with that actually performs well at BH209 velocities. I'm using Barnes 195s now, but they are a dollar a pop.

I think the gold dot would be great in your intended application. Have you considered the 200gr hornady xtp or the new nosler? I would suspect both would do well at BH speeds and they don't get much cheaper.
Heck I wouldn't discount a hard cast with a big fat meplat, especially for range time.

I have some xtp's, but found expansion to be inconsistent.
Everywhere I look for the Gold Dot, they are out of stock.
What's the Nosler bullet, any info on it?
Thanks,
Don

I have no experience with the nosler but it's been discussed here lately. A search should find the info.
I'll try to find the name of the place I got them from. If I remember right last time I was in gander mountain they had some in stock but I'm not sure what calibers, .45 for sure but it was some time ago. You could check online there, as well as cabelas and bass pro? Maybe grafs if you haven't already?

I thought I'd bookmarked the place but hadn't. Buddy remembered, I pulled it up to get the link for you, but they don't sell bullets of any kind anymore Sorry. You could try emailing speer and see if they can tell you a vendor that has them in stock?

What caliber are you looking for? In the .40 the 180gr Gold Dot would probly do you pretty good. The Nosler Sporting Handgun in 200gr maybe something to look. Both would do well for range time and maybe even hunting at as long as you do not push them too fast. You have to remember they are designed for 10mm auto loaders.

I'd like to try the Speer .40cal in 180grain. I'll be using BH209, so I won't be pushing them too fast.
I just can't find any in stock.

They are a reputable company.......very big into the shotgun sports. The 200 gr. .40 Noslers shoot very well out of my .45. As good as the XTP's. 28 - 2900 fps is no problem. Richard

are the .41 210gr noslers much or any different than their .40 200gr? i found a couple OLD boxes at a local place for $15 each so i nabbed one for the heck fo it. only planned on using them for the range but was unsure if their construction would actually be any tougher?

Moto357, I use Hornady 210gr .410"XTP's in my .45 and they are very accurate. This year I shot two deer. The doe was a shoulder shot at 140 yds. The 210grXTP exited and I found it in the snowbank a perfect mushroom. The buck was shot at 230yds. The bullet entered 6" forward of the base of the tail at an oblique angle, tearing an ugly hole and plowed forward through the liver and lung and came to rest under the hide at the brisket as a perfect mushroom also. That's on par with CF perfomance IMO. Muzzle velocity was 2430fps. Of course I don't know what the performance would be at 2800fps. I don't think it would be a whole lot different at 230yds, but that's only a guess. PM me and I'll give you the load.
