One of our members........gmb54120 was kind enough to send me an array of different bullets to try/test. Unfortunately, I did not get to all but did some. And, of course, one load is not sufficient to tell if a bullet is good or bad, but does at least give an indication of its potential. One of the bullets, a Barnes 155 gr. TAC-XP along with a little lead .22 bullet as an insert....30 gr. (actually it is from North American Arms black powder .22 mini revolver). I inserted it and then pointed it to sort of crimp it in place. This bullet has possibilities. gmb also included two different weight .40 cal. hard cast bullets........ 260 and 220 gr. The 260 were better but not good. The 220?? It went off at 1200 fps with the same charge as the 260. Bill said he saw black stuff come out of the muzzle? Could not find it on the 100 yard target??? Later found it actually hit my 200 yard target??? Definitely a fluke. Not enough pressure I think Also included was a 225 gr. Hawk .40 cal H.P. This was just terrible. The first shot landed about 7" to the right of where the other loads printed. I had to use a new point of aim for the last three.
One load I was really interested in was the one that shot so well for Salvage Shooter............11/59---N-120.H-322 with the 195 Barnes. I went right to 200 yards and with the wind, think this load has good possibilities. I also tried it with the 200 SST and it looked good also. The only thing I did not like was the large Extreme Spreads. These could be a big problem at 300 and beyond.
Savage Shooter had mentioned light loads of 5744 with 200 gr. bullets for ladies and juveniles. So, I tried 35 and 40 gr. with the 200 Nosler H.P. These look real good and are mild kicking.
