thinking out loud fellas i recently modified a lee mold on my lathe to make a smooth sided 40cal at a little under 300gr. as cast diameter is .407, and it got me to thinking. seems a lot of guys shooting the 50 have good results with the crush rib with still appropriate bullet diameter to maintain loading pressure. i realize lots have tried the crush rib and find better results with the smooth sided harvesters, same for my own experince. what i did next was open up a size die to about .4035 and plan to see how this works, although my rem/pac-nor isn't finished yet...still.. just curious what others think of this and maybe if this will eliminate whatever ales the crush rib 45/40s vs the smooth blue's?

So let me see if I got this right........................Your are going to cast a bullet .407" in diameter...............then size it down to .4035" and then try to stuff it down a .45 bore inside a crushed rib sabot? Hmmmmmmmmmmm? I have some .401 hard cast bullets one of our members sent me and they do go down the .45 PN bore inside a crushed rib. .4035" might be a tad tight . I guess you will find out ;D?
