OK when you put your choice/choices, let us know what scope failed on what base under what load and after how many shots if you can remember. if your scope has not failed let us know what base and what load. also how much you shoot in a year APX. this may help us understand why some have multiple failures and others don't have any problems.
i have a Nikon buck master and a Bushnell 3200 and the Nikon was on both a two piece(was shooting T-7 though) and then moved to my other which has a one piece base and no problems yet. this scope/ gun combo now has 65 grns of H-4198 and a 290 grn TMZ with no problems.this gun/scope combo has had 300 shots threw it.
the Bushnell elite 3200 has been on the other one and has a two piece base and it too shoots 65 grns of H4198. it has has 50 to 75 shots with this combo threw it. it too has no problems yet.

I use a two-piece dual dove tail mount and burris signature rings with a Burris Fullfied II 3X9 ballistic plex scope. Four years of book loads -- IMR-4227 at first and N-110 to the present -- 250 and 300 gr bullets. Average about 200 shots a year. No scope problems.

On my first ML I had a 2pc base and had an older Bushnell scope that came off of my 06. Near the end of the first hunting season the scope blew up ( a lens came loose and there was no viewing at all). This year, I have a 1 pc base and had no problems until I started shooting heavy loads with 285 grain payloads. The scope is fine, but the screws came loose which is my fault. If you shoot heavy loads I think that you need to check screws more often. edge. PS it did cost me a buck on the last day of the season...belts and suspenders

Sightron BSII failed on the one piece base on my .45. Not sure how many overall shots on this scope, 300 maybe, died soon after I started shooting the 300SST sabotless, less than 40 shots with that bullet.
The rest of the failures were on the .50 MLII with Warne 2pc. bases. The first Elite 4200 lasted a couple hundred shots. Most of the shots on this scope were probably with 66gr H4198/290TMZ and 74gr 10X/275 XPB.
The second Elite 4200 lasted less than 50 shots. 14/61 duplex/250SST.
A friend had a Zeiss Conquest fail on book loads with N110/250SST in less than 50 shots on the Warne 2pc. The VXIII was probably between 500-600 shots before it died. 70 or 75 grain duplexes with the 250SST.

Leupold two piece mounts.
Two scope failures this winter. New Nikon Monarch 2.5-10 and Leupold Vari X III 1.5-5.
300 grain 458 Hornady over a duplex 8/62 4759/4198. Less than 10 shots each scope, with this load. The tuperware stock is bedded.
I had not had a failure with 250 grain bullets.

I have not voted in poll, as my scope failures have not been on ML IIs. I lost one leupold on .45 - 70 (marlin with hotter handloads) with two piece base. Lost a Bushnell 3 - 9 on 12ga slug gun. Fogged internally, but was still accurate when it dried and cleared.
Both scopes had a lot of years and rounds on them, and did not owe me anything. Although the Bushnell fogged after six hours in the rain, and I did not notice until I was sighting down on a six pt at 30 yards!

No scope failures so far: Year 1: Bushnell Elite 4200 3-9x40 mounted in Talley Light Weight Aluminum Mounts (yes aluminum). These are two pc mounts but the mount and bottom half of the scope ring are one pc. Apx 250 shots fired, most 300g bullets at 2300 fps. Year 2: Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44 mounted in Warne QR rings and 2 pc Warne bases. About 350 shots this past year, a mix of 300g bullets at 2400 fps and 250g bullets between 2200 and 2700 fps. Had some grouping issues a couple of times this year and verified that it was not the scope by putting it on a two known shooters and was able to shoot the box with both rifles. The first culprit was a front action screw that was a fuz loose and the second culprit was me not waiting long enough between shots in 50-60* weather

2 Piece steel Warne Maximas rings and bases from day one.Zero failures.Zeiss non AO scopes.Over 5,000 shots on one combo.Close to 3,000 on another and around 2,500 the last one.I almost forgot Tarbaby! Her combo has approx.500 shots on it.With the exception of her combo, the aforementioned scopes have digested mainly 300 grn fodder from 1800-2400 fps.I loc-tite the bases and rings.

4 ML II's - All guns equipped with Warne 2 pc bases - All guns are scoped with Nikon Buckmasters 4.5 X 14. 2 guns have accutrigger - All guns have laminated stocks. 1. VV N110 43gr, 250 SST 2. VV N110 43gr, 300 SST 3 VV N120 60gr, 300 SST 4. VV N120 62gr, 300SST
No failures too date - Guns maybe shoot average of 15 shots per year - Too busy to paper punch throughout the year - Just load em and hunt. I sure do love this front stuffer. Keep up the good work guys.

Over many years I have used Redfield Jr one piece and leupold one piece without failures of a varitey of rifles for myself and customers. No returns and no failures I know of. I think care in attaching, proper loctite, screw tension and equal ring gaps on each side is important. I have seen many mounted carelessly and in a manner I would expect problems. That said, I have had equally good luck with two piece steel bases. I don't use aluminum stuff. If a magnet doesnt attract it I don't use it. Ozark.

I'm surprised that some guys don't like aluminum. Some types are actually stronger than some steels. 6061 T-6 Aluminum = 60,000 psi 7075 T-6 Aluminum = 80,000 psi Cold rolled steel = 40,000 psi

I have had two scope failures. One Burris 4 x 16 x 50 AO Signature that was on an Encore,I shot a deer in the rain, six pointer, killed the deer and scope with the same shot.Load was a 250SST over 3 pellets.Scope had less than 100 shots fired with it on the Encore. The second was a 3 x 9 x 40 Burris Signature with a lighted reticule that was mount on a Benelli 12 Gauge Slug gun.I would not keep POI.This scope had less than 200 shot fired with it on the gun. Both were repaired by Burris but turnaround time was 4-6 weeks. I have sent two Leupold back.First new XVIII 3.5 x 10 x 50mm on a new Browning A-Bolt,first morning of hunting season in a climber one hour before light, some how handline got tangled in bottom of climber and when I reach my setting height of about 30' the rope, rifle and scope landed on a rock at the bottom of the tree.Bent the scope tube,Leupold repaired and had back to me in less that two weeks,my repair cost was $80. Second Leupold was sent in to have a Heavy Duplex put in a 1.75 x 6 x 32,also back in less than two weeks. I did send back a Sightron SII for a flake in the scope, was sight holding POI and tracking good.I mailed on Thursday of one week and got a new scope back from Sightron on Wednesday of the next week.Would have been back sooner but Post Office had held the Sightron in the Post Office without delivery to Sightron for an extra day and I called the Sightron people to see if they had received,Sightron people call the Post Office and had to go to the Post Office to pick up,if this had not happen I would have gotten it at least a day eariler. My next scope will be a Sightron or Leupold.

I will second 153's opinion of Sightron and Leupold for customer service, they are both fantastic. Bushnell-not so good.

I have a Burris FF2, 2 x7, with a German plex, mounted on 2 piece Burris bases, and Buriss Z rings, I lapped the rings prior to attaching the scope, never had a problem.

After seeing pics of Rich's one piece Farrell base on his Savage and talking with him about it, plus reading everyone else's opinions, and going to the Farrell site, I had to order my own. The base looks hell for strong built and superior to some bases I've seen that cost quite a bit more. Only down side, I might have to end up getting some lower rings as the Farrell base is pretty tall.
