i dont see much info on R7 for the 45. Ive used R7 and H-4198 almost interchangably in the 50, favoring R7 slightly due to less deviation in velocities in my particular gun. Is R7 to slow for the 200/195gn bullet or just not as popular?

:)I have not used it personally but there are quite a few .45 shooters here that are. Basically you would use the same charge levels as h4198 and n120. O and its not to slow...

I have shot some single loads of Re-7 with fair results (60 gr) I have also used it as a main charge in duplexing and gotten some impressive velocities. Richard

Im hoping to find out too since Re7 is cheap at a local shop and the SD for Re7 looks very good in 50cals. Its also pretty good in the 45/70 IIRC.

It is very accurate as a single. The following pic. was 63 grn of RE-L -7 @ 100 yds. with the 195 BX and the Harvester blue and Fed 209A. No chrono reading as this was a impromptu session. This powder has been very consistant. The following pic is the largest group of 3 shot this day.I eventually settled on the 60 grn of N-120 as it edged out the RE-L-7 in the accuracy department but I would not hestitate one second to use it as a primary hunting load!

I used it this last year in my 45. I don't recall for sure, but I was shooting 63 or 64 grains. Accuracy was as good or better than H4198 for me.

Rel7 was an excellent performer in my 50. Since I have quite a bit of it, I will be giving it a good try in my 45 as well.

Thanks to all, N-120 is non existent in these parts. I have both H-4198 and R7. Tar12 that charge seems familiar. (50cal 300gn 63gnR7) (45cal 200gn 63gnR7) wonder if the pressures are similar.

Dennis.. You can't go wrong with either RL7 or H4198. Both get about the same velocity and accuracy with the same amounts of powder. I personally like 62gns in my .45. I shot 67gns of RL7 and H4198 in my .50 with equal results. N120 is a good single powder load also, but like you it's hard to get. Zen

It is indeed familiar! My first range session consisited of 2 loads that I had weighed up for the .50 cal. One being 60 grns of N120 and the other was 63 grains of RE-L-7.Results were outstanding for both.

Tar12
Did you try any H-4198 in your Pacnor?
If so, what kind of results did you get?
Thanks

Tar12 Did you try any H-4198 in your Pacnor? If so, what kind of results did you get? Thanks No I have not.But I did try IMR 4198 and it was right on par with the RE-L-7 and N120 in the accuracy department. It is on my list but it is really going to have to impress me to make me give up the N120.

I've shot a bunch of H4198 and a little R7 in the .45 with similar results. I haven't really done the R7 justice yet in the .45 but I did put a couple of deer to sleep with 63 gr R7 and the 195 BX this past season. Last year I used the 4198 with similar results. I loved 63 gr of R7 and 300 gr bullets in my .50 and I never shot the 4198 in it. I don't think you can go wrong with either in either caliber.
