Gentleman, just was on Randy Wakeman's site. He has posted that as of 3/10/2011,Ron Colburn stated that the Savage 10ML11 WILL continue to be made on a made to order basis. ;D Just thought I would share that with you all.

No, Mark, I certainly have not claimed they "are back for good." According to Ron, they are in production right now and are considered "made-to-order" at this point, but there is no "back for good" type of statement.
The good news is Savage is currently accepting orders as of now.

Excuse me Mr Wakeman if I over stepped my limits by stating that they are "back for good". My enthusiasm got the best of me and I thought most on this forum would be glad to hear that Savage is still producing even after the "final run".

It will at least keep the used market more inline with pricing.

The term "final run" would likely have a positive effect if you were trying to sell a product that was previously declared "discontinued". If its made to appear that you are the only one able to sell the "final run", it might be in your best interest for receiving advanced orders. It might be a good marketing maneuver...or it may not be in the long run. There is nothing wrong with testing the water before deciding to dive in head first or wade out slowly. But opinions vary

Cabelas sold their run of BP MLIIs in a year. There is a market there. Heck even as a BP gun it's cheaper than the Encores etc... with the fancy names attached. And it has a lot more versatility and potential than any other production gun. $.02! 10 ga

10gaCabelas sure did appear to sell them well. The store in my area didn't have any on the "clearance rack" and i agree, the price was very fair. "Best" is better left for another topic.

My question mirrors fishhawk's: let's say I want a camo stainless--am I SOL because that isn't the current run?

I would buy a Blue before I'd buy another Stainless...I've had two Stainlesses, set up another Stainless for a friend and my first one was a Blue...I wish I still had that Blue...It shot circles around all three of those Stainlesses....That's been my experience. Zen

You guys missed my point--it wasn't meant to start a blued vs. stainless argument, rather I want to know how available the various ML11's are.
Let's try again: let's say I'm dead-set on a stainless camo. What are my chances?

Just curious, why would a blue barrel shoot better than a stainless barrel? Is there a consistent and predictable accuracy difference between the two?

Personally I would build off of a centerfire Savage or Rem or other platform with an custom barrel IMO, a Savage or Marlin with switch barrel capabilities is about as good as it gets ....IMO! Yes it will require a second stock or some elbow grease on your part but you will end up with a much superior product that is much more versatile......and yes most would require an FFL. edge.

I would build off a custom action along the lines of a 10ML or 700ML. No bolt raceways and no mag well cut out to make the receiver as strong as possible to hang that heavy barrel on. Plus the bolt raceways and locking lugs are the biggest cost in machining. I'm still looking to get 700ML receivers made cheap.
If I was to build off a CF I would try to find a Savage single shot. But you can find used 700s cheap and even the new cost of a Stevens or Marlin is cheap and with the barrel nut design makes doing it yourself pretty easy. We have pioneered the change over to the point where all it takes is a call to Pacnor and Pete to get a barrel and breechplug sent to your door and be able to stick the pieces together.
