I am going to creep into the use of duplex loads in my MLII 50s and 45. I'd like to keep my IMR4759 for single powder loads. Since I have a supply of IMR4756 I'd like to use it as booster but unsure of suitability. Have IMR4198, AA2015 and H322 for primary. Advice on how to approach using the 4756. Should I just stick with the 4759 for a booster? BTW has anybody seen the spike in 5744 price? WOW, glad I don't use that. Thanks all, Bob

Thanks all, Bob 4756 is going to be way to fast to use with any load volumes that have been established for 4759 or N110.

If you want to ease into duplex, then stick with the proven loads.

Is IMR4756 a cylindrical or ball powder?

Danno, It is like a flake powder.

Danno, It is like a flake powder. In that case, it would be best to forget about it. You would probably get too much of it falling through the vent liner hole. Five to 15gr of 4759 for your booster won't drain your supply too fast, though.

4756 is a powder that RB used to recommend for light loads in the Savage. By "light" I am talking in the realm of around 1/2 the quantity of 4759 for similar bullet weights. (25gr for a 250gr bullet) He would not have recommended it if the granule size were too small to be safe in the Savage. With only 25 grains of it being a full pressure load, using it as a booster in my view would be a bit tricky. Would have to be a very small quantity of the booster and not much flexibility.
4759 is an excellent booster load and I fully agree with dannoboone. It will take quite a lot of shots at five to 15 grains to significantly reduce your supply of it.
