Hi All, I've done alot of hunting with a bow, cf and some with muzzleloaders. The reason it's some with mz is because the isn't much of a season here in Fl. I just bought an Omega and want to get up to speed with modern inlines. One question I have is this, what kind of oil is recomended for the bore? I thought Bore butter sounded good but, now i've read some negative opinions on it. Can I hear some opinions on which way to go? Thanks in advance.

Bore Butter really isnt that good as protection.
Use a good synthetic oil WITHOUT Teflon. I use Montana Extreme Bore Conditioner. I cant say it really conditions the bore but cleanup and first shot POI has been very good.
For longer storage needs you may want to look at Rig grease. I use a milspec CLP for longer storage but re-apply every other month.
No matter which you choose make sure you clean it out with a alcohol swab before shooting. The MX seems ok if you leave a small amount in the before before shooting but its best to stay as consistent as possible.

BTW if that is a NEW Omega with T/C's packing lube, be prepared for a very long cleaning session BEFORE you fire it. That stuff is a bear to remove and may take a lot of scrubbing.

Thanks for the replys, the Omega was used when I got it. It was very dirty and had some rust in the bore that was tuff to get out. After cleaning and scrubbing it still had pits and I was dissapointed with that but, I took it to the range and in the end it shot a 1.5" group at 100 yds with a loose scope! I took the scope and rail off and reinstalled it, should shoot even better! Thanks again.

A quick question?....If it's best to clean your bore with an alcohol swab before shooting ....Why should you steer away from oil with teflon in it. I've used Remington oil with teflon for years and haven't experienced any build up or any problems that I know of? . It has done a good job with rust prevention also. Am I missing something? Thanks, Zen

My friend has used Bore B and swears by it but, I've read that BB can have a wax build up that can be hard to get out and may efffect accuracy. It seems to me that any ''wax'' would come out after the second shot if not the first. Anyway, I've allways used ''gun oil''on my cf's and mz's and it hasn't failed me. [Gee, I think I'm answering my first Q] Still trying to learn new tricks.
I'm also curious about swabbing with alc. is the object to shoot with a dry bore? Whats up with teflon? Sorry for the Q's that have surly been asked before.

What to use may depend on what type of powder you are shooting with. With Blackhorn, you can used a lot of the same products as with your center fire guns, just not too much.

Sounds like your typical Omega! I bought one new in December, and the manual said you could use regular gun oil or bore butter. I used bore butter since I had some on hand. It has shot the same with oil left in it, or after shooting a few rounds with only dry swabbing between shots. It's seemed to have been pretty consistent, despite tweaking some variables.

This is specific to the bore and i don't know if he is going to use T7 powder. T7 and Teflon makes the crud ring worse. Even with BH209 the residue was more gummy and less slick for lack of better terms.
I used Remoil for years and swore by it. I still do on some areas but not in the bore. Ive forgotten to swab too many times before firing and with the MX oils i don't have any residue issues. I just run a dry swab with it after popping a couple primers.
ATM im trying out a newer version of CENT-CLP in one of mine i don't shoot much. Its made to the newer NATO specs and cleans BH209 really well.. I get it for $20 a gallon. Beats the heck out of BrakeFree or MX pricing. Cleans up great and works pretty good for medium length storage.
I guess if you clean out the bore perfect every time Teflon isnt an issue but i don't see any advantage in Teflon in the bore. Brake Cleaner seems to work great at removing it but its not stock friendly.

They make pellets for the JBs and Kroil polishing but a good fitting jag and patches will work too. If its blued/weather shield you might want to be careful with the Evap O Rust.

The problem with Bore Butter is that if all the moisture is not removed from the bore it can be trapped between the BB and the steel and will result in rust of the barrel. Most of the better oils will "soak up" a little moisture and not cause a problem. Personally I prefer Ballistol as it can even be mixed with water for some uses and as a barrel protector I have had very good results. I live in Arizona however which is a big help too.

I have an Encore ss. I store it with Bore butter every year. Then I clean it with Windex with vinegar..NOT AMONIA amonia will promote corrosion. I clean it well then pop a couple primer's in it then load it up and put a barrel condom over it and away we go. This is the method the tech told me to do at 777. He assured me the first shot would go right where the next handful would go. He was right. I do have BH209...but never opened it..since I went smokeless. Your Omega has the same barrel as my Encore.. You should not have any problem's getting 3/4" groups at 100 yds. start around 100 gr of 777 and a 250gr sst or shockwave.. ;D drop

I use Break Free CLP. It works better than anything I've tried.

dyna tek bore coat. Oiling is a waste of time after the bore coat is installed. The new knights use this stuff as its an excellent product that seals out rust ad corrosion + the ceramic coating reduces fouling and makes for easier clean up.
