The had some in stock not sure his many though. If they need to be made it'll be about six weeks. He is sending me an email today or tomorrow with final qoutes. Let me know, Kevin.

Ohiobuckeye was looking for 1 or more, what is the outside diameter? All I've found were 5/32", too small for a Savage plug without welding in the vent threads and re-drilling or something.

Here are the dimensions of the bushings there are lots of zeros so hopefully I don't forget any. 0.031" +0.0001/+0.0004 I.D. X 0.1578 +0.0000/-0.0003 O.D. X. 0.25" +/- 0.01 long The bore in a standard savage breech plug, assuming that it is the same diameter as a tap drill for 10-32 is 0.159" so, we would have to find a way to make it fit. Maybe holding it on either end with a set screw or something. Any ideas? I have made my own plugs now and can bore to fit for myself but we may want to figure out a fix for a standard savage plug. Any ideas or thoughts fell free to share. Thanks Kevin

Iam ignorant here, as Iam using the DD 700 C plugs, which need the vent to thread into the nipple. Could vents be machined out of carbide? Ray

They are approx 5/16"(od) X 1/4" (L). I would be interested if you order. rkrobson; you need some pretty expensive tools to machine carbide, it is one of the hardest things there are.

Most of the drill bushings are standardized. For one with ID of a drill size of say #69 would have a 5/32 outside diameter. The next step up has a 13/64" OD but those usually have a ID of .0625- .0995".
I found a company a few years ago that had available a 13/64" OD with the smaller IDs but I can't find them on the net nowadays so maybe they are out of business.

Guppy, Would a heli-coil screwed into the breech plug work for your install? Greenhorn

Most companies sell rough ground bushings that are a couple of Thou. oversize.
You may want to ask about these. They may be large enough to be a press fit.
I normally leave a worn out vent liner in place to prevent the full pressure from driving the bushing backward into the primer.
edge.
PS they may also have metric sizes that may have a different OD.

$40.00 each sound pretty expensive. Seems like I saw some carbide drill bushings listed in MSC or Travers Tools at around $4.00 each. Can't count on my memory tho! Brain Dead!! Boarhog

Not Carbide They are hard steel. They will work but will wear after a while. Prices I got for carbide a year ago were way higher than the $ 40.00 and I had to take a min. of ten to get that price. Thanks for correcting me Fishhawk I ment to tpye 5/32"

Carbide Connection has a 5/16 OD by 6" long carbide rod for $22.55. You would have to EDM cut it and EDM the center hole. Not sure what it would cost. Just the cheapest I have found yet.

If enough of you want carbide bushings made from the 5/16" rod, I can get a price for the work. My brothers shop has both probe and wire edm. How many, how long, and what hole size?

1/4" would be better if its available. I'm still looking for some options, our tool and die leader here is seeing if we can do a 0.031" hole on our machine or not. The guy who runs it usually is off on sick leave for a bit so I'm not sure what will come of it. Lets keep the ideas coming and get something figured out. Thanks, Kevin. BTW. The heli-coil idea is a good one also.

Kevin, you can get 1/4" rod from your neighbor Fullerton, or nip the shanks off 1/4" endmills.

For the sake of the economic side of this, does anyone know how long the life of these DB insert(s) BPs would be shot wise if one uses charges of RL10X and H4198 at or near maximum charge weights? If you include the cost of the breach plug, insert as well as possible related installation costs & S&H you would be getting (my guess) near $80 and $100 each does not seam out of the question.
For this to be cost effective I would need a considerably larger amount of shots per mod/BP VS the No# of shots $80-$100 worth of VLs would give me.
To some cost is not a factor, but it is to me and possible to others as well.
Don't wish to be a nit picker, just looking at the cost effectiveness of this.

I had a Savage breech plug that RB installed a bushing in it for me, I left it go with the gun when I sold it and it had 800 to 900 shots on it and it was still good and shot very well.

I have had a heck of a time trying to get our tool and die guys to do anything lately. I have a few quotes out yet for custom ones so we'll see. I was also making some of my own plugs but it has gotten extremely busy and just haven't had much free time. Sorry if I haven't answered pm's but I don't have much good news. Ill keep trying, and let you know when I find something out. Kevin.
