Disasembled the SS non-acutrigger ML-II I bought sat. Removed the scope and got ready to remove the $5 rings when I decided to check the ring alignment for the hell of it. I have a solid steel rod machined to 1'' that I use to check align. Put it in the rear ring and slid it forward and it was over 1/16 high. I could rock the shaft between the rings. Was going to blame it on the cheap rings but decided to install some Leo. rings and double check. Wasn't the rings, the rear base was way to tall. So gonna start over. Leo. Redfield and Weaver are what most shops around here carry. Does anyone know the # for the one piece Leo. [flat rear] ? And can you get by with low rings for a 40mm or do you still have to use med? Or a weaver style base and I can use the Leo. rings I have. thanks Dave

The Warne part numbers are...M902/936. Mediums work for a 3x9x40.

In your opinion are the 2 piece as good as a one piece? I see Brownell's has the Warne Maxima sets for about $25 are these the ones? Does Cabela's stock the Warne? Will be going by there tomorrow.

Dave, one of the biggest problems with the savage action is that very few are straight or flat from front to back.... almost all I have checked have been out pretty bad. I suspect this is why the savage has a rep as a scope eater. it keeps the scope under constant stress....... my fix was a Farrell one piece base bedded to the action.....no more stress. no way i would use a two piece again... buy a good one piece and bed it for a stress free mount.....just my 2 cents ...Bill

The only one piece I have used was a Leupold. It was destroyed in short order.I do not know if that was due to operator error or not but one of the rear screws sheared off.I have been using Warne bases and rings since with no trouble at all. Pre-2003 are the ones you need if you choose to go thar route.

I am trying a DNZ one piece everything now. Went on great, and lines up perfectly, but that is on the ML10-2 with round front and back. BH

I also have the DNZ one piece base on a ml 2. Fits great, didn't even have to lap the rings. In my opinion best base out to date. But the only make them for round savage actions.

The only thing I could find around here that was worth a hoot was the Warne two piece base and rings. Found them at Cabela's. Locktited them down and checked ring alignment, it's a little harder to do with the split rings but they seemed ok. Put a 3200 elite on it and shot it about 10 times. Shot consistant, Didn't have time to set up targets but got it shooting minute of cow pie. I didn't think the old style trigger was that bad. Time will tell. Might have to find someone to install third action screw and bed it for me and make a real shooter out of it. Any takers? If it ever warms up I'll fine tune it and see what it does. thanks for all your help guys.

Richard did all that fancy bedding and 3rd pillaring stuff for me, and many others on this board. Boarhog

M898/936M for a flat base rear Savage in Warne Maxima 2-piece Weaver style. A Burris #410620 is a better choice in my opinion, it has multiple slots in each base for ring position options. The Burris will work with any Weaver or picatinny ring also.
