Just had an experience on gunbroker that i would like to pass along to you. Purchased a Used muzzleloader that was listed in Great condition. During this time i become ill and end up in the hospital and right after that I had a death in family. I notify seller every step of the way and my progress and tell him when things our back to normal check will be in the mail. In less than 3 weeks he receives check and mails out my muzzleloader. I get it and it is nowhere as described. The breech area, breech plug, striker are pitted with some rust. The still some small pitting on barrel and by the muzzlelbreak. The cocking handle is bent. The stock has some scratches. I had to soak the breech area just to get the breech plug out which was caked with powder foulings. The spring that drives the striker foward was severly weakened and hardle ignites #11 cap. IF this is in good condition i would hate to see bad. I contact the seller and try to work things out and after a few days i never hear back from him. I check gunbroker and in my feed back he posts that it took 3 weeks for me to pay and that i am trying to blackmail me and to beware of me in the future. Like a man i tryed to work this out without airing our dirty laundry on the web and this is what he does. I asked him for a refund or to simply give me back some of my money because i was misled by his posting and that i did not get what i paid for. And then he makes me look like the bad guy. That is not right. Am i out of line, guys please tell me. I will respect what you have to say. I just hate being taken advantage of.

Bill, I hate you had to learn the hard way . I have not purchased anything on GB but I am very accustom to Ebay and the MAIN thing to scrutinize and check out is the feedback score. They have it there for a reason. If there are any negatives BEWARE !!! Paypal or a credit card can give you some safety but it can be a pain to go that route. Let everyone know what name he is selling under and since he is not willing to work things out, give him very negative feedback and maybe he will be less likely to screw with anyone else. Sorry again that you got took, especially with your recent bad news. Take care and God Bless, Allan

You have only so many days to file a complaint with Gunbroker. GB makes it impossible to contact them by any means other than through their arbitration site. Don't know what can be done to recoup any of your dollars. I have purchased several guns on GB but you have to be very careful of "fuzzy" photos or shots taken at extreme distances to hide defects. From my experience, GB favors the seller unless he repeatedly violates policy...like misrepresenting condition. Had a K98 that seller said bore was " like new" condition but turned out to be a sewer pipe. If it wasn't so rare, I would have sent it back, but I did rate the seller rather poorly...then he reciprocated by rating me low since I was "hard to please". The GB rating system seems rather flawed.

Like stated above I tried to work things out with seller. He never responded to me and posted negative feedback before we could work things out. He insulted my integerity by posting that I am trying to blackmail him and watch out for me to other buyers and sellers. That MAN IS A COWARD IN MY BOOK.

bill It's a shame it worked out that way. I had one bad experience like that on ebay, and he stuck me with a bad rating over a couple of dollars shipping, which was stated right up front in the ad. But, since ebay also had problems with the bad guys leaving bad feedback out of revenge, and the victims not being able to do anything about it, and in fact leaving good feedback for the badguys, lest they get paid back in a bad rating, ebay changed their policy on feedback. I forget exactly how it works, maybe each party cant see the other's feedback until after they have left something. I forget exactly but it seems to work better now. As far as recouping your losses, it doesn't sound promising, but good luck.
