I was wondering opinions on these 2 scopes VS. each other for prolonged heavy loads. I currently have a Leupold M8 6X42 that is one of my favorite scopes for hunting. I have one that i am going to be mounting on my Savage, but i see that the Elites are coming down in price. I may send my M8 to leupold to have the click adjustments installed and maybe a CDS dial.

I have an Elite 4200 and a Leupold Vari-X III (the last is from memory) as I did not want to wake the family to retrieve the ML but they both have worked well and with the Lead Sled to boot.

I have two Leupold V-111 3.5 X10, I have close to or passed 7000 shots fired, many I call big boomer, recoil over 30 pounds to 42Lbs, They have lots of miles on them Airlines, Bush planes, trucks and the like, on QD moonts, HOWEVER they are 10 years old, Check with Rossmen, It seems Leupold made in the US of A, may now be using Chinese parts. But the ones I have are Superb.

Drop - If you have a model in mind, I would call them and ask point blank.
Myself, I have not had nothing but good luck with vari-x II and vx III's. When I lost caps or damaged by stupidity, they have always taken care of me and have yet to charge me. And when I called they speak english. I have had less than that with other scope companies, including nikon(spotting scope) and simmons.

I still have a red sweatshirt, they gave away as a promotion about 35 years ago, I sent them a note saying, I still had the shirt, no at Leupold remembered the promotion, more proof, I'm older than dirt.

I have 2 Elite 3200s and 2 Elite 4200s. The 4200 is a vastly better scope IMO. I am not impressed with the brightness of the 3200 while the 4200 is excellent. I expect your referenced Leupold is likely the tougher scope, if for no other reason due to the single power simplicity.

I often wonder why I bothered to spend the extra money on the 4200. My last 4200 came from Cabela's and was on sale cheaper than the 3200 so there's some logic to getting that one. I like both the 3200 and the 4200 but if I were to get another one, with no sales going, I'd get the 3200. Kind of academic though, they quit making both series.
