John, I have no experience with the medalist, but I do with the duramax. If a barreled action will fit the medalist right, even with a little clearance work, it might be worth it. I'm currently bedding and pillaring a duramax for a member. The fit out of the box really sucks. When screwed to the two existing pillars, the barrel rides high and way right in the channel. Also as you tighten the screws, the stock spreads some around the action. Others have just sanded the barrel channel on the bolt side to even it out, but I didn't think it would look up to my standards. The pillar screw holes are extremely large for a 1/4" screw leaving little area for the screw head to seat. After relieving the action area so the barrel would sit in the channel properly, the action screw holes are to one side of the pillar holes. So I am removing those two pillars and refitting them along with a third added and filling the magwell. I think the medalist is lighter and might make a MLII a bit barrel heavy, which a tupperwared gun already is.

I myself have 1 Duramax and my son also that we had bedded and re-pillared for that same reason. At the time I had no place to bed one but the kitchen table. So I paid a premium to have it done... But done it is and they both shoot sub moa... mott...I wanted also to go with a Medalist or equal too. But , would it still be relying on just the pillar's or do they fit like a glove? If they need to be bedded also, would the removal of material cause any weakening of the way the aluminum block is intended to work? If there isnt a noticable gain I would and probably will in the future opt for the duramax. I have a Savage varminter in .243 that I have been thinking about getting a medalist to drop it in... But wonder if it should be bedded also. drop

I have 2 Duramaxx's and a Medalist. The Medalist is superior to the Duramaxx in both construction and fit.
My Medalist is on a Remington 700 heavy barrel fluted .223 that will shoot sub 1/2" groups at 100 yds with Hornady's 55gn V-Max factory load. I am able to remove the barreled action, reinstall, torque the action screws and it will hit right where it did before it was taken apart with the same accuracy level.
My Duramaxx's are on 10ML's. The Medalist wasn't available for the Savage when I bought the Duramaxx's, if it were I would have bought the Medalist.

I have a b and c tactical metalist on mine and I love it. Fits great, minor sanding need by bolt handle so it wouldn't touch it when closing it. Mine was the 4.25" spacing.

I know the screws are different lengths from my sun to my laminated t-hole. I had to use the screws from my t-hole stock on my b&c metalist stock. The other screws were to short.
