My brother called me and said he stopped at a mom an pop gun shop and they had a savage muzzle loader non accutrigger MLII for sale for $350. I have no experience with the early savage models. Can someone enlighten me on what the major differences are? Do they shoot as good as the new ones? I understand they use a different style breechplug [good or bad?] should I gobble this thing up or pass? Thanks Dave

They use the same plug as the new ones.It was the Original ML-1 that used the funky plugs. The other difference is the top of the receiver should be flat in the rear and round in the front. No biggie.Accuracy will be on par with the new guns..maybe better.

I like the old trigger better than the new one.My 50 has the flat receiver and have the old trigger set at 2 lbs. I have adjusted quit a few of the old triggers and this one is the only one that I have gotten that low, most will go down to around 3 lbs. The ones with the old trigger and flat receiver will shoot just as good as the new ones.

Well, good news and bad news, I called the gun shop first thing this morning and was informed he sold the gun last nite. BUT he knew another guy that wanted to sell his and he would give me his no. So I call him and he has a stainless syn. MLII no accutrigger 3x9 redhead scope he would part with for the paltry sum of....................$450 bucks. And he would thro in the powder, bullets he had left. So needless to say I beatfeet it the 40 miles to his place. He brings it out and this thing looks like he just took it out of the box. He has 2 boxes of .452 shockwaves unopened and almost a full can of 4227. along with a ziplock bag with a few more and a box of primers with 18 primers gone. This thing was shot a total of 17 times to sight it in and never got used. He proceeded to tell me to make sure that you really seat the bullet hard because he had problems with misfires. And that he bought an Omega to hunt deer with and didn't really trust the savage.OK thank you very much. I get home and I'm putting the stuff away and I notice the 3 bullets and the blue sabots in the zip lock bag. The bullets are 200 grain .400 with a dark blue sabot. The unopened boxes have yellow sabots. I wonder why he had ignition problems!!! Gonna put a Duramax on it I've got laying around and one of the 3200 Bushnells I got from Natchezz and see how she shoots. Gonna have to make a road trip to get some better rings and I'll be set. The trigger doesn't feel all that bad....have to shoot it a few times to see. Might have to read up on the adj. for it. Would've like to seen the blue one that got sold but I guess things happen for a reason.

Yes, that's a good buy. What is the serial #?
My gun was purchased "used" due to "ignition problems" as well for $300 about 6 yrs ago. It was about the same time that I joined the board. Haven't had an ignition problem yet.
Sounds like you are on the right track with getting it set up
