I had Richard size some .450, .451 and .452 bullets for me to try some sabotless shooting in my Pac 45. I will be using my duplex load of 11gr(N110) under 49gr of 322. I have used this load with saboted 195 and 200 gr bullets but wanted to make sure it would be an ok load with the 250 and 275 grain bullets sabotless. If this would getting pressure to high I will go with some 4198 I have on hand. Thanks for any help replies.

Are you looking for high velocity or just a good accurate load?
Unless you are looking for a barn burner then H4198 would be a good powder in the 50 grain range.
QL would estimate a 250 grain bullet under 55 grains of H4198 in a 45 bore to be:
2426 fps @ 43kpsi
Now that may be high on the pressure side because Hodgdon shows the max load for the 450 Marlin using 57 grains giving 2509psi @ 42,200 PSI
edge.
I HAD THE 55 GRAIN LOAD LISTED BUT SHOWED 50 GRAINS IN MY POST!

The 11/49 of N110/322 is my go to accurate load in my Pac45 that is 2575-2625 fps with a 200SST/XTP or 195 Barnes depending on temperature. I just like the idea of duplex for dependable ignition. Never had trouble with the 45 but still have nightmares from my stock 50 that had a very loose bore. I will try to 4198 as I would not want to go above 40k pressure.

Since I have no way to estimate a duplex load, Hodgdon lists H322 59.0C yielding 2289 fps @ 37,300 PSI with a 300 grain bullet.
FYI QL shows the same load as 2268 fps @ 37224 psi.
QL would show that load with a 250 grain bullet as 2323 fps @ 32323 psi.
This is a bit on the light side for reliable ignition and only burns about 86% of the powder.
The 4198 charge burns a bit over 90% according to QL.

Edge, out of curiosity, could ya tell us what pressure QL states for 77gr H4198 shooting a 250gr Parker Ballistic Extreme? This is shooting sabotless in a .45 barrel.
I got a couple of Richard Franklin's DVD's awhile back and just finished watching the second disc about how to build your own ML, and that's the load he uses. This is not to say anyone here should use such a load unless they duplicate one of his $3,000+ ML's with a BAT action, Krieger barrel, etc.
If memory serves correctly, the barrel length is 30" and he gets around 2950fps. (Also shoots ground hogs out to past 500yds).

Edge. I would say you are pretty close to right on. Jon

Shot some H-4198 today with 300 gr. FTX sabot less in my PN .45. Will post results. Richard

11/49 will probably be approx. 2500fps, at least in my gun anyway with a 250 FTX @ 35*.
59gr H4198 with a 250BE-2600fps On a good day, this is sub .6MOA @ 200yds for three shots. Probably out of your comfort zone for pressure though.
