Would it be possible and do you guys think it would be a good idea to make copper sabots? It seems like it could possibly eliminate the shortcomings of plastic sabots for pushing the smokeless .40 cal bullets in the .45. Joe

would be expensive and very hard to load, and most likely wouldnt come off the bullet on exiting of the barrel. mike

I would think the diameter could be adjusted for loading. Do you think the temperature gets high enough for the sabot to fuse itself to the copper coating on the bullet not allowing separation?

Your idea is a copper clad plastic sabot and not a sabot made entirely of copper correct?
Personally I think a sabot made from better plastic is what is needed, or a sabot with a metal disk embedded in the base would probably be the next area of improvement....IMO.

What is the benefit...I'm not understanding the concept..
Wouldn't this idea just be a jacketed bullet shot sabotless?

Wouldn't this idea just be a jacketed bullet shot sabotless? Thinking the same, here. Why not just go sabotless? Since even the best made barrels have differing bore/land diameters, you would have to get them sized just right to shoot in a specific bore. Sizing the bullets themselves for a specific bore would be a better and much more accurate way to go.

Would sizing help when still using a sabot???

I am just trying to think of how sabots are going to evolve. Keep in mind probably 99% of the general public use sabots. Whoever comes up with the next new sabot might get rich. I think edge is on the right track with metal bases.
