How's about some of you experienced experimentive shooters compile a list of bullets we newbies can experiment with along with suggested velocity limits for use on game. I realize this might be opening a can of worms, since there will be at least one or more opinions for each person, but at least it could give us a starting point. Thanks again for a super board. I've never experienced anything even close to like it anywhere else.

hubcap, here is a link to a spot in the tips and hints. it has links to bullet testing in paper and different media and info on bullets. as to suggesting a bullet for a newbie? well bullet performance plays a factor in what type of performance is desired. with the info in the link a person can make a choice. if need some specific info nay one can fell free to ask! dougva.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=Savage&thread=3370

Yeah, what gmb54120 said. The XTPs (250 and 300) are a great and inexpensive way to go to quickly get up on the learning curve. They are available, accurate, and relatively inexpensive. I always used 4759, but primarily because where I live N110 and 5744 were darned near unobtainable.

I have found the 300 gr XTP to be a very easy bullet to get along with. Proven itself accurate & very effective on whitetails. Comes in a magnum version, my first choice, but standard version is ok. I ended up using 4759, but 5744 was nearly as accurate. Should add that I used the data found here for charge starting points and reasonable range to work within. It's good info.
