for us and those who come after us. What if your idea of " My 45 or 50 shoots great with this or that load"? If you shot your best load everyday for a week, what would your best group be and your worst? What is attainable . What is the best consistency we can expect from these MLIIs. For me as of this date out of my 45 pacnor, if I shoot the same load over and over again, it is shooting between 1/2 and 1 1/2 inch groups with my two best loads. How about yours?? Thanks , Rusty

Probably about the same for me with my 40. Of course I do not have a lead sled so the largest groups are probably 90% my screw ups. Actually an over 1" group or under 1/2" group are pretty uncommon with my best loads.

I am one of those people who say every time I go to the range my .45 PacNor has shot 2" and under at 200yds and 1' and under at 100 yds. However I have only had it to the range seriously 3 time's Because after it showed me what it was capable of I quit looking for that elusive best load.. Pretty simple for me thanks to the advanced people on this board I have learned ...Measure out 62gr of H4198 pour it in the barrel push 1 200gr sst inside of a blue smooth harvester sabot ...walla best groups to date. Honestly though it made me lazy.. However I have been aquiring a few more powder's and will get some barnes 195 and get serious about it. accuracy for me is a confidence builder

My kinda stock 50 MLII shoots about the same: 1/2" to 1&1/2" groups consistently. My Encore conversion shoots bugholes to 1" consistently with accuracy load. Of course that is with plenty of time and off the bags, shooting for accuracy. In "field practice" and plinkin the accuracy is "good enough"! 10

!0 ga, Is your conversion an encore barrel modified or a pacnor?,with all the conversions going on I can't keep up ,SMI,BULBERRY,Savage_barrels,etc. Anyway I'm one of those guys thats looking to shoot those attainable groups made by the custom rigs that are talked about here. I bought a Ml1 on here and love it but I can't stop reading how the .45 pacnors are performing and also the bped 45-70 encore barrel conv. Ive seen where pposey has had great groups .5 or less moa with his encore conv. Just trying to keep up with whats going on here thats all. Thanks guys. Greenhorn

Greenhorn, My Encore is a 24" blue TC 45-70 barrel with a Savage BP installed. I shoot PPoseys "kids" load of 31 gr of 4759-smooth blue-200 XTP-w/wonder wad. Got a 3X9 Bushnell on it. SMI did the BP install and barrel crown/campher. I have a post on the "build" forum about the cost etc... dougsmessageboards.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=build&action=display&thread=6442 It has plenty of power, especially compared to my "smokey" guns. But that load Shoots really good in this gun. I use it for "woods" hunting and calling etc. Light, easy to tote and handy is WAY more importnt then 300 yard shots. I love my MLIIs but they aint for totin through the woods all day. 10 ga

This year I played with the .458 325 gr FTX. I pushed it at about 2450-2500 with 70 gr H4198. Harv CR sabot. FED209A primer. Shot about 50 of them or so at 100 and 200 yds. Shot 5 of them into deer from 30 yds to 150 yds.
Had many clover leafs at 100 and no groups over 1 1/2". No fliers. Several 200 yd groups at 3". No fliers at 200 either.
Gun is a stock .50 black/stainless, bedded action, no accutrigger and the recessed muzzle (QLA) Leopold VXII 3 x 9.
This will now be my Go-to load

About the same as you Rusty. My gun averages right 1" groups at 100 yds & 2" groups at 200 yds with the 200 SST, smooth blue Harvester sabot, and 62g H4198. However that is not my hunting load. My hunting load which is the 195 Barnes with 63g H4198 is not quite as consistently as the 200 SST. For every .5" group I shoot there is a 1.5" group thrown in to keep me honest. Both are rare.

With a 22 or 243 a half inch group, I can get with out much trouble. But when your bullet is a 1/2" in Dia. the same movement will make it much harder to get that 1/2" group. The aerodynamics of the .45 and .50 bullets are not as good and you also have the inconsistency of front loading.

I have a stock 50 with no real mods, but good glass. I’ve got my groups down to 1 ¼” at 100 for 8 out of 9 shots. About every third group I’ll have 1 that goes 2 inches high and 2 inches right. I’m pretty sure it’s just a slight error in the load, but it might be me. I don’t use a sled or anything, so I’ve got to watch everything when I shoot.
I’ve only shot one powder (at different amounts), so I could possibly shrink that. I’ve tinkered with everything else. The gun is for hunting, and that accuracy will work all day long in the places I hunt so there isn’t much need to go any farther. Maybe when I get bored…

Morgan1109: If you are using MMP sabots that occasional flier can happen. If that is the case I think it is linked to variations in the sabots. Some guys switched to Harvestors with better results.
