I am moding a QRBP for a guy at work opening up the flame channel to .156" and the orifice to .032". I am also going to decrease the length of the orifice as it is way too long IMO when you compare it to other designs. I am going to head-space it using a 5-193 "o"-ring. I have to settle on a few more dimensions before I start cutting metal. I should have results within the next month or so.

flash hole The o ring to adjust head spacing for a tighter primer fit is a PITA and gets pretty d**n old replacing them. Just adjust your firing pin bushing out to the proper adjustment, put a couple layers of teflon tape around the bushing threads for a tighter fit and you'll be done with it. My Optima's firing pin bushing was backed out .016" on the money when using CCI 209 Magnum promers. Just use a flat feeler gauge and put it up against the frame and back it out - screw in until its level with the feeler gauge.

That's a no go then. We did that, still had fail to fire (other than primer) in cold temps. Oh well, if CVA doesn't offer something soon we'll give Ron a shout.

Did you open up the flame channel to .156" and reduce the length of the orifice yet? Is the Primer creating a positive seal against the shoulder in the breechplug primer pocket?

Not my gun, but I can say no. Only opened the flash hole to .035. If it needs more than this, we'll ask Ron to do it. Hope to test his plug very soon.

what primers did you use?
Its really important to adjust the firing pin bushing and get all the primer heat into the flash channel rather than the rifles frame.

Rons modified plugs work well. He just modified a Knight NFPJ plug for me and I installed a PR vent liner. I had sparks flying 6-7 feet out of the GM54-120's 20" barrel when I tested it with Fed209A's. It will definitely ignite BH209 in cold weather now and I can use a milder primer if I want.

jsteurrys, Here is the pictures. Just scroll down some from the top. The powder pocket is one of the best designs for igniting BH209. It puts the powder closer to the fire. I have yet to have any misfires or hangfires in my Omega's, Triumph or Encore .45 barrel which all have the TC powder pocket breech plug. I have had the origional plug in my TC Bergara barrel modified and some homemade grade 8 plugs made by Ron. All fire BH209 when the trigger is pulled. www.modernmuzzleloader.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=19301Here is a good Youtube video of someone testing one of Ron's Accura V2 plugs with vent liner in cold weather. Rangeball, just have him mail that plug to Ron!

Thanks for the video. If it was my gun I know what I would have done a long time ago

+ a few thousand on Ron's plugs and modded plugs. They were 100% in my Accura V1 45 and BH209 with any primer that fit well. IMO getting the correct primer fit is a huge part of the puzzle.
