I reload 243, 270 and 06. Using Winchester brass. My reloads on the 243 have started splitting in the neck after 3-4 reloads, is this normal? No problem with the 270 or 06 just the 243. Would using Lapua Brass help? I have only been reloading a year but have had great results with my handloads. 243(Tikka) went from 3/4-7/8 groups to 1/2", 270(A-bolt) went from 1.25-1.75 to 1/2 to 3/4" groups and 06(BAR) went from 2-3" groups to 1-1/2" groups. Reloading was supposed to save me money but I just end up shooting more with the savings.

3-4 reloads with split necks seems very low to me. How hot are you pushing the loads? It might be worth it for you to start annealing your brass. I know a guy that won a world record on his 56th reload in a 260, but he anneals every time. Additionally, are you Full length sizing or neck sizing....

I agree with Rick as to annealing. WW brass seems to be more brittle than Rem brass in my experience so annealing should help. Also take some measurements of the rifle's chamber. You may be "over-resizing". A lot of foreign chambers can be a little off compared to ours. With splitting occuring after 3 or 4 loadings, that would indicate to me the possibility of an oversize neck in the chamber. Good Luck!

I have dozens of Rem .243 brass that have been reloaded many, many times. I have also thrown out a few Winchester brass that has been loaded only a few times. I have no idea what the difference is. Rem brass seems more resilient.

I bought 200 Lapua cases when I bought my .243 and never looked back.

When comparing anything to Lapua Brass, you just can't. You can make due with anything else, and there is nothing wrong with that, but you cannot find anything better than Lapua when searching for accurate loads. If they are from the same lot it takes the brass out of the equation.

I have never used Lapua brass but my standard deviation with remington cases has been 12 and my standard deviation with the same load in winchester cases has been 24.
I have never had any problem with the case necks splitting in remington, winchester, or hornady cases.
