If I went smokeless, I'd definitely go 45 cal. Just not sure I'm ready for that just yet. Thinking about getting the TC Omega and using BH until I get time to do a smokeless the right way.
That being said, should I go with the 45 or 50? I see a few 45's listed here and there NIB. I'm not afraid of recoil, but I'm not a glutton for punishment either (my current stiff stock 50 packs a punch).
Am I correct, there are basically 2-3 bullet options for a sabot 45 that you can buy packaged?

If your hunting Deer size game, I would buy a 45. I would also suggest the Knight Disc Elite over the Omega in either caliber.

Thanks.
After I've read about 100 posts here tonight, I believe the 45 has more options than what I originally believed. Just wish the search engine would take "45" as a search string but it says it's too short.

I'll second the Elite over the Omega, every Elite I have shot is amazingly accurate. If you can find a Remington 700ML in .45 snatch it up quick though.

My .45 Omega with laminated thumbhole stock shoots sub MOA with Barnes 195 and 200gr Hornady SST's with 110gr BH209. The Omega style breech plug has been 100% reliable with BH209 using regular CCI primers for me. Just my 2 cents......

I prefer the 45cal for overall use and game upto at least deer. I just enjoy shooting them more vs other calibers unless im using my brush gun.
I prefer the Elite too but the Omega 45 cal can shoot. The Elite also carries much better to me but...

The Omega will shoot, I'm not putting down by any means. I just like the Elite better. To each his own.

With no reference to theory, from experience, both the .45 and the .50 cal Omega shoot great with BH209, triple 7, etc. The 45 has less recoil, but the 50 has a few more bullets available. I am not sure which is lighter. For the average hunter, these guns are far more problem free, lighter, better handling than smokeless. BH 209 is pretty close to smokeless in terms of ease. You can wait a few weeks before cleaning, etc. The Omega is very easy to clean.

Thanks for the input. I'll keep an eye out for an Elite as well. I may stay 50 cal until I decide to try smokeless out.
Appreciate it....

Appreciate it.... jb, this is an interesting comment- maybe it is the gamble of many of us that smokeless will be reintroduced as a production rifle in 45 cal. Wouldn't that be nice!

To be honest, if I go smokeless it'd be a custom. I have several savage actions, just don't know enough about smokeless to make that right decisions right now. Got too many irons in the fire to do the research to do it right the first time. I'm hoping that a good inline and BH will serve my immediate hunting needs.

Go with the Knight, like a dummy I sold my Disc Elite. It shot 1" or better all day long with BH209, don't know why I wasn't happy with it. "You get a itch, ya gotta scratch it".

:)go with a .45 omega. I have both elite and omega and my omega is a better shooting machine imo. My elite perfers the shorter bullets like the 175bx which is a good bullet but I perfer shooting the 195's and my disc will not shoot them very good. If the disc had a faster twist it would have been better. My omega just flat out shoots the bullet I perfer and it is as simple as it gets. And as far as blowback goes the elite needs a lehigh conversion(not expensive) to solve the blowback issue the omega I have needed nothing. The omega has a shorter plug so right off the bat its blackhorn friendly. Again this is jmo and what I perfer. Goodluck either way you go you will be getting a great gun.

My Elite shot better than my faster 1-28 twist Accura even with a PR 360gr conical. I even have a few 1" groups shooting a .401-260gr hardcast in my Elite. Both had aftermarket plugs to insure a good seal and to make them BH209 friendly. Ive shot bullets from the 40-155gr Barnes to the 260gr hardcasts and they will all stay under 2" as the norm. The lighter Barnes 175gr though does shoot better for me than the 195gr and im not sure why. The 175gr will go into an inch almost every time but i have to work at it with the 195gr. Its doesn't respond as well to a wider range of loads.
The main reason i prefer the Elite is it handles/shoulders so much better TO ME but thats a personal thing. You can also get a competition target trigger from Knight if you really want a grade A trigger that will compete with the best of them. I have two of them, one came as OEM on my GMB54. I bought the other one from Knight for my LRH project.
This one boils down to a personal preference since they are both fine guns. The only bad thing i can say about the Omega is the composite stocks could be better. I have no problems with my DISC composites.
