Hey everybody! Live in Texas, hunt mainly in West Tennessee.
New to muzzleloading. Never picked one up until '05. Even newer to smokeless, I bought a Savage last year and LOVE it. I've been fortunate enough to kill a dozen deer with it and am blown away with it's performance, as I've made at least four kills I wouldn't have attempted with the BP.
I'm looking forward to learning from all of you as I figure all this stuff out.
I think muzzleloading has a bright future, especially as Texas expands it's seasons. I've gotten several friends here in Texas muzzleloading, and all are planning on going smokeless.
Thank you for allowing me in.

Welcome aboard.
Yes there can be a lot learned from this board but a lot can also be learned from newcomers who bring fresh ideas and share their experiences. Look forward to your participation.

I've had enough success hunting with it to get me hooked, but hunt with it is basically all I've done.
I don't have a good place to shoot at home in Texas, so I haven't put in the time to do much experimenting.
I basically got lucky on the recommendation of a friend with the first load. I actually moutned the scope and zeroed it in four shots total.
67g H4198 with SST/Shockwave 300g I switched from a Leupold M-8 4x to a Nikon Prostaff 3-9X40 this year. It seems just as clear, and I'm comfortable making the 200 yard+ shots.
If I decide to get into reloading and buying bulk bullets, there's a shooting club a few miles from the house I can shoot at anytime I want. I just want to be able to justify the dues.

And I'll go ahead and throw out there how green I am just to get it over with. I did't know to measure regular powder by weight rather than volume. Of course I figured it out before I actually planned on sighting the gun in. I also loaded a superglide sabot and hunter opening day and second morning of MZ opener. I took my 4 year old son with me on That Sunday afternoon. He was very quiet and still as a deer came into the field less than 30 yards from us (we were in an open ladder stand). I pulled the trigger and the bullet shot about 3" out the end of the barrel. But I'm getting the basics down at least and plan to figure out a way to spend some time on the bench experimenting during the off season.
