Has anyone else noticed how slippery the Savage laminated stocks are especially when wet. I was thinking of stripping the stock, cleaning up the checkering and putting on a hand rubbed oil finish instead. Has anyone thought about doing this or has actually has done this to their Savage laminated stocks. If so how did they turn out?

I have noticed that the Boyds laminated stocks are very slippery. I mechanically stripped one (sandpaper and elbow grease), checkered it (honestly, I had my eyes open when I did it), and refinished it. Much better now.
I did not take the time to do another stock. This year I cut some non skid tape from 3-M and stuck it on the stock. It did not look too bad, similar to what some stock makers do to a synthetic stock and the over mold rubber pads. I peeled them off after the season and the finish suffered no ill effects. The stock is scheduled to be stripped and scarified.

youp50, What did you use to refinish your Boyds laminated stock? Should I stay away from the liquid strippers because of the glue used to laminate the stock?

I stayed away from the liquid strippers because I did it in the basement in the winter, purely an atmosphere quality decision.
I used a blend of oil and poly varnish. I have used the Tung Oil, Birchwood Casey, and Minwax brands. I have not found much difference between them. The finish is easily repair if you scratch the stock.
I think that the spray on finishes that are used by the stock manufacturers is high in silicon and that is what makes them slick to touch.
