I noticed that the MMP black HPH12 sabots are quite long for the Hornady .452 300gr. SST and XTP bullets. Also the MMP orange sabots are long for the Hornady .458 300gr. hp and the Barnes Original .458 300gr. semi spitzer soft points. Do these sabots need to be trimmed or shot just the way they are?

There MIGHT be a possibility of the jag getting wedged between the bullet bearing surface and the sabot, creating possibly enough resistance to lift the sabot /bullet combo off the powder if the bullet/sabot fit is not tight enough.
Personally, I trim. Probably does not affect accuracy if one trims or does not.

I never found it necessary to trim sabots. The biggest concern IMO as Davew mentioned is pulling the sabot/bullet off of the charge as this has been done.My advice has always been to go to a .45 jag for loading a .50...end of problem.

Dittos for DaveW, I trim. Carry scissors in about all my "boxes", about $1 or so a pair at the $ store. 10
