Looks good. I "think" all these years I have taped the bottom, sides and front of the recoil lug. Oh well, they shot well.

OK, so today I shot Howa's new .45/Savage/DuraMax rifle. The load was 62 gr. of H-4198 with a 200 gr. XTP in a smooth blue Harvester sabot. The very first shot was at a clay bird then the next shot was the one 9" low and 2" to the left. The Point of Aim was then dialed to the point of impact and the three shot group fired. (100 yds) Richard (new pressure traces to follow tomorrow---not enough time tonight)

Brown delivered this afternoon, as pretty live as it is in the pic. Thanks Richard, a beautiful job, looking forward to shooting her. Bathroom scales have her weighing in at 10.2 lbs for the total package, scope and all, sound about right?

Richard does a superb job of bedding the MLII. His quick release knob for the bolt is worth 10 times its weight in gold ! Here's my rifle Richard bedded for me in 2008. Added a Rayhill Tactical bolt knob with lift kit for the cool factor. d**n shame, Richard does not bed center-fires; I would send him my Mod 70 yesterday.

Off topic, how much velocity increase does that 30" bbl yield over a 24"?

I would say on an average, (based on my 23" PN and my 26" PN) that you can figure around 30 fps per inch with the same load. In the case of going to 30" it may not be that much? In order to see a bigger increase, you might have to taylor your loads accordingly. By that I mean possibly adding more slower powder to take advantage of the extra burn time in the longer barrel. There comes a point when a given charge begins to loose pressure and friction can slow the bullet down. You then need more powder burning producing pressure to get higher velocities in the longer barrel. If Sag could provide a load and velocity we might be able to compare? Richard

I use 72 grains of 2015 Powder as seen in my signature. It is a load Dave D recommended to me and the only one I have ever used because it's super accurate in my Pac-Nor. I don't know for sure how much extra velocity I get from the 30" barrel since I don't have another Pac-Nor to compare it to; I forgot the exact velocity I got when I last chronographed it almost 2 years ago. Actually, I ordered the 30" barrel because I always admired the looks of the 30" Hawken barrels on Thompson and other traditional muzzleloaders. I wanted to be different and thought a 30" Pac-Nor with flutes would be cool looking and think, at least to my eyes, it is. Increased velocity had nothing to do with it but will take it if it's there.
