I am shooting a used (new to me) T/C Omega X7. The whole barrel and trigger assembly came loose in the stock today. The two screws holding the barrel assembly to the stock were and are tight. However, front screw goes into a metal block that screws into the bottom of the barrel, and that block is loose. (pencil points to the block in the picture below) A few questions. Am I correct that this block should not be loose, and that it suppose to be funtioning as a recoil lug? Does anyone know what size torque bit this is? (It is smaller than anything I have at the moment) Another item that is loose is the ram rod thimble attached to under side of the barrel. If I tighten the screws down, the thimble is still loose. When I tried to remove the screws and thimble, the screws would loosen about two turns, then they would bind. Before I get into trouble by using more force, is there any trick to removing this thimble? Thanks for any suggestions.

That block needs to be tight. I would even have it tack welded in place so it can not happen again. The ramrod thimble screw might have loctite on them which is why they get tight. You could put a little heat on the screws to burn the loctite off if that is the issue. I have done both of these things on different guns.

The lug needs to be tight and yes it is a recoil lug. The thimble too, both could affect accuracy. Congrats on the fine little rifle, I love mine.

What's your recipe for that 3 shot group? One of my thimbles was loose and I just stuck a screwdriver in and tightened it. Now you have me wondering, guess I will have to re-examine it and see if it stayed tight after the last range session.

Heating to remove locktite can be done using a match. I don't mind if a thimble is loose myself.

recipe for the three shot group was to shoot it at 25 yards! ;D ;D You cant see the range as I wrote it on the center orange bull. Just getting the gun on paper after removing and remounting the scope. Group at 50 looked the same.
my thimble is so loose it moves 90 degrees out of position with each shot. The thimble is just a flat bladed screw head.
I would be afraid to weld the block, afraid of what heat would do to barrel. I think I will leave my welding to car bodies and farm equipment.
Thanks to everyone for the input.

That block is attached by some sort of keyway, isn't it? If you can get it out, look at it, and see if filling in the void with JB Weld would secure it, might do it. Just some ideas w/o having looked at it.

I have an X7 and the exact thing happed to me. A loose recoil lug, even a little bit, will affect your accuracy.
You will need a size T8 Torx head screw driver (NOT a phillips!) to tighten that puppy down. To be safe, I added a little teflon tape to the screw threads to make sure they stay tight. Alternatively, you could use some loctite.
I suspect this is a not too rare occurence with the X7, since I have heard of this happend to a few others. The older Omegas had this recoil lug welded to the barrel. Apparently T/C switched for cost saving reasons.

Thanks for info. It is smaller than t10 for sure. I will head out tomorrow to buy a smaller set torx, all my sets start at t10 and go larger.
