I have an opportunity to buy a Knight Elite MH one in .50 cal and one in .45 cal, which is the smarter all around buy for use in deer hunting?
I have zero .45 bullets or sabots, and are concerned about the selection of bullets and sabots for use in a .45 caliber ML. But if the advantages of a .45 cal ML over a .50 cal are large enough I will be more than willing to buy the .45.
I am just concerned I will get the .45 and there will not be enough different bullets usable by it to find a extremely accurate load for it.
So those with .45 caliber Elites I need you help and knowledge on this, and quickly as I do not want the opportunity to buy to get away from me. I have on question concerning the .45. Will it push Barnes all copper bullets fast enough to open up relaibly at longer ranges?
Thanks, Arthur.

Art,
I believe the Barnes should open up at 1300-1400 fps. So you can back into what range that is if you know your MV and assume a BC of roughly .19.
Probably can't go wrong either way. You have the same things to weigh out here as with smokeless....recoil, selection..blah blah

Art,
Are these guns DISC Elites or Master Hunters as they are two different guns? If they are DISC Elites, I would buy them both. My .45 DISC Elite loves the following bullets: 195 gr Barnes Expander, 200 gr Hornady SST, 200 gr Lehigh DOA, 185 gr Lehigh DOA, and 200 gr Hornady XTP all in a Harvester Light Blue Sabot. They all shot sub MOA using 120 gr of BH 209. I used the 200 gr Lehigh DOA for deer this year with excellent results on two deer. My .50 Elite likes the 275 gr Parker BE with supplied sabot. I need to do some more load development for the .50, but I love the .45 so much this may not happen. I hope this helps.

My Elite 45 will shoot almost anything i feed it well within "minute of deer" out to 200 yards and "plinking ammo is cheap. Most 40cal/10mm bullets come in packs of 100. XTPs and GoldDots are pretty cheap and a good all around choice.
40-200gr SSTs are not available in bulk but the Lehighs/Barnes are and shoot great in mine. You only have 3 main sabot choices but thats fine. It hasnt stopped the 45cal SML owners a bit. Ive shot bullets in sabots from 155gr-260gr and conicals upto 360gr. All of them can shoot under 2" at 100 yards with little effort. Most are right at 1" when dialed in.
I cant say a 45 is better but to ME its more enjoyable.
And as mentioned the MHCs are based on Extremes not Elites. I prefer the Elites but a mint MHC would be nice too. Make sure if its a MHC that it comes with both stocks. All MHCs IIRC came with a wood/laminate and a composite TH stock.

Thanks for the replies, I am now properly educated did not know there was a diff BTW a Elite and MH, although common sense should have told me so. I also hopefuly have a Knight Elite I can buy, so I will go with the Elite if it is still available.
Thanks, Arthur.

If you ever wanted to hunt Illinois, the projectile must be .44 or larger. That pretty much eliminates the use of sabots in a .45 I like the buy them both idea.
