I'm growing out of my current range box. (Black powder MTM Case Guard). Looking at some with built in yokes / cradles for cleaning at range. I've seen them for $400 (hand made) to just over $30. Is there some to avoid? It would be nice to put everything in one box. Thanks

I use a big Husky toolbox with compartments on the top that can be taken off. The take off compartments hold bullets and sabots and cleaning jags. Serves me well and I did not spend a fortune.

Moved to a tool box... and now I am fighting to keep everyting in it...

Tool boxes, the big longish yellow ones! I have a seperate box for each calibre and type of ML. This way I don't have RBs and RB patches in the MLII box and 209s in the same box with #11 and musket caps. Box for .50 hammer guns(3), box for .50 smokey inlines(3), box for the .58, box for the .45 SML, box for the MLIIs(2) and a seperate box for just cleaning stuff as per Eds Red, 90% isopropal, several types of preservative and gun oil, brushes, mops, cleaning patches, silicone cloths, on n on. This way I keep all the stuff for the gun types seperate. As per #11 and musket caps in the hammer gun boxes, Win. 209s in the inline boxes, CCI and Fed. 209s in the SML boxes etc... Also allows duplication of much of the tools and equipment. I lose stuff all too often but usually have duplicates of necessary items this way. I just have 1 stand for cleaning/making adjustments but that is all I need. Have duplicates of rods too. Cut to length rods with "MARKS" for loading and hunting for each gun and a seperate general rod for cleaning that is equiped for brushes and mops etc... I usually load a bunch of vials/speedloaders before going to the range to save time etc... As you can see I have a bunch of stuff to deal with and have to limit the # of guns taken to the range at one time. So it's the tool boxes for me. For storage I use clorine buckets from the club pool. They are tight and good for storing powder, primer/caps, bullets, parts and tools, etc... and they are free. I can just write on the side/top with marker what is inside and keep track of stuff easily, ha ha. No wonder those guys in the 17th to 19th centuries needed pack horses and mules, I can hardly get my stuff in a pickup truck, LOL! Merry Christmas to all, 10 ga

10ga. I have to agree with you I go to the range with a min. of 4 if I decide to plink then it is 5. I wish I could condense things better but it seems the more I try it comes out the same. Jon

Good stuff Thanks...Man, I wish i could be as organized as Sabotloader. Tool box may be the answer. Went to range today and forgot to include my loose powder. Oh well...only a 10 min drive. Senior moment.

My favorite ever range box is a Planno model 9606 fishing tackel box. I would describe it as huge and has six seperate trays in it along with a quite deep storage section. I use it to hold all my firearm related tools and certain types of items like spair B-plugs, screws, VLs and all my cleaning brushes and cleaning eqipment save for rods and bulk fluids.
To store all my ML shooting related components in a quite rare and no longer in production range box that is more like a tool box designed for shooting supplies. In this I store all the bullets, sabots, primers, and loading tools I use with my MLs.
I have looked as hard as I know how for a range box that will hold all I listed above and keep everthing well organized, but I never found anything that I felt would fill my requierments, and the few that came close were custom hand built types that cost more than most any single one of my rifles did.
After 20+ years of going to the range I have settled on using 3-4 seperate storrage containors that are packed depending on what type of firearm I will be shooting that day. #1-holds all my firearm & smithing spacific tools and items. #2-holds all my ML spacific or rifle components, bullets sabots, primers, ETC. #3-Holds all my firearm cleaning fluids, sprays, lubes and patches #4-Holds eithor my pre-measured powder loads or ammo, and if shooting both rifles and MLs one for each, which are actually .50 cal ammo cans.
If anyone finds a strorage containor that will store a allot of shooting stuff and keep it well organized that is reasonably priced, please oh please post how and where to buy it here.

12pt I'm so with you. The boxes are only for my "gun" stuff. Takes the whole pickup box of gear: boxes of clay pigeons and a thrower, buckets and bags for trash, gunshells, and used cleaning patches, shooting bench, targets, target boards, 300' tapemeasure, hatchet and axe, 8# maul, stakes, toolbox of hand tools and power equipment and generator to repair broke stuff at the range, assorted 2X4s, 4X4s, 1X4s, couple of scrounged pallets...etc.... It's a truck full.
