Question - My Savage shoots both the Bonded SW and the FTX equally well. Shot the bonded SW for gun season here in Ohio and had two pencil through lung shots in which the deer ran as much as 150 yards after shot with very little blood, both recovered but spent a lot of time on my hands and knees looking for droplets of blood. Have since made it to the range and the FTX 250 grain shoots as well or better. 45 grains 4759 very accurate. Will the FTX do better on the lung shots without blowing up if shot at shoulder at close range?
Thanks

Sorry to hear about your experience with the bonded ones. I have 1 kill with a bonded 300SW and that will be the last, it penciled too. Seems hard to find a middle ground for the 250 bullet, either you go unbonded and it frags or apparently bonded and it pencils.
I have no experience with the 250 FTX but it would be worth a try. However I'm not sure the construction is much different from the 250SW, I think someone had a pic that showed cutaways of them both.

The two guys that I know who are using the 250 FTX at speeds comparable to your load have only had one get out of sight, a raking shot that clipped the liver and guts before stopping in the off side ham. Most of the take downs were at 190-230 yds with pass throughs and the deer traveling less than 40yds. The closest shot was at 70yds, full frontal, bullet recovered in off side ham weighed approx. 220gr. DRT
If you want to stay with the BSW, the shoulder shot may be a better option.
