For best accuracy, how should the action and barrel be bedded to the factory composite stock? The one I have the barrel is tight to the stock.

Jag, check on Ebay under Remington 700 stocks. There's a guy selling 700SPS varmint stocks for around $40. They have the two front studs for the sling and bi-pod. Also, the forend is somewhat of a beavertail design that really lends itself to off-hand shooting. It actually fits the 700ML nice and tight on the action and the barrel channel is perfectly floated. Re-orient your ramrod support to the right (from the barrel end) send your ramrod to touch the stock and mark it with with a silver colored pencil. Then take a 3/8" all-thread rod, heat the end RED with a torch. Place it through the ramrod support down to the mark you made with the silver pencil and push until you hit the recoil lug. You may need 2 or 3 heats. The factory composite stock will be too flimsy on the forend if you grind it out whereas the SPS stock is a lot stiffer. I own a few 700ML's and the actions in all of mine are very tight in the stock. They all take considerable effort to pull them out or the stock unlike the Savage syn stock. I've never bedded any of them and each shoots hole touching groups at 100yds. How bad is your rifle shooting now that you think that bedding is the problem?

Mountainam: Why am I changing the position of the ramrod support?

Jag, to clear the two sling swivel studs. It's the easiest way. Once you get the stock and button the action in place you go "Ah Ha". Good Luck.

I've decided the best way for me to get around the ramrod problem is to just carry one and not worry about it being attached to the rifle
