Well, my week in Meigs county ohio was all I didnt expect. Hunting on 300 acres of steep hills and flat tops, with a small group of great guys, great food, staying in a 1863 log cabin, not all bad from that end. However, on opening day, saw a thundering heard of does 12-15 running down a mountain in front of me, but too far and too many trees, no shots, saw two nice bucks on a dead ass run from another ridge too far. so ends day one for me saw plenty no shots. Tuesday it rained and rained all day and most of the night staying in and ate and lost some money plying some sort of card game. Wed, light snow started, in the ground blind at 6 stayed there till 10:30 saw nothing, saw nothing that night also heard no shots all day. Same for Thurs, Fri and Sat morning, saw no deer and heard a few far away shots but nothing close. Saw a yote on the way in on Sat morning should have shot it for the nice winter pelt but didnt. Sat after noon saw a big doe on top of the ridge where I saw the thundering heard on Monday, the laser said 231 to a rock that she was going walk by steady the gun up bog pod and I shot, her ears went up, didnt run, saw a tree limb falling down in the woods I had to shoot thru, reloaded she was gone. A tree that is 90% air got in the way of the Barnes 275XPB
Well I at least got to shoot at one. Left Sunday morn for Tampa, the mountain road I had to get down to flat roads was too steep for my mini van went another way had to get a push to get up a snow covered dirt road. The trip thru WVA and Va on I-77 was a trip, behind a snow plow, throwing salt when I got home the car was gray from road salt. Washed it Mon they charged me an additional 5.00 to pre scrub the salt off
So ends deer camp 2010, one shot saw some on first day, one on last day before I left and nothing for 5 days. They were sucked up for probing by aliens and will return after the season ends. Always next year. My freezer is empty.
Total for the camp was 2 yearling does, 1 small 8pt, we didnt do anything to thin the herd where we were at. The guy that got the buck shot 8 times at it to kill it, gut shot, rear leg, front shoulder, blew up a lot of good meat, not good!
