H4198 is capable of shooting 200 fps faster than N120 H4198 is easier to find H4198 is cheaper
Don't get me wrong. N120 is a great powder for the BO in the 50 cal Savage but so is H4198. You can't go wrong with either.

I didnt know that H4198 was faster. Guess thats why I asked. Would I be right to say that 70 grains is the max load on a stock 10ML11? Thanks guys.

With H4198 I think your shoulder will determine what the max load is before the gun or barrel will. Bloodtrailer is right...70g H4198 with a 300g bullet thumps pretty good.

I like 99% of N120 fans, only wish I could get N120 OTC but only one store with in 100 miles of me has it OTC and that is MAYBE 5-8 jugs of it 1x a year and after as exhaustive a search as I could muster I could find NO ONE and I do mean NO ONE with in 200 miles of my home that has it in stock with anything that even resembles predictable regularity.
Because N120 is IMHO THE hardest powder for the 10ML-II to find and buy OTC and avoid the hazmat fee I feel it only proper when ever offering advice to new 10ML-II owners, that I make it a point to stress to anyone who wishes to use N120 in there 10ML-II to first confirm 100% the availability of N120 and if it is not obtainable with in reasonable effort, to not fall in love with it and make it the powder they base their hunting load(s) on. IIRC in times past, there are actually long periods where N120 and VV powders in general are simply unavailable for purchase even OTC, but that situation may have improved as I have not attempted to buy any VV N120 in over 5-6yrs.
On the other hand I can find H4198 in stock in any store near me who sells powder 99% of the time. H4198 is in a tie with RL-10x as my 10ML-IIs absolute favorite 10ML-II powder. I get excellent accuracy with it, all the FPS my shoulder can tolerate, in MY 10ML-II it shoots bullets from 245grns to 300grns quite well, and after going through 3+ pounds of it in my 10ML-II I have had exactly ZERO misfires or problems of any sorts with it.
Try H4198 you will not regret it.

In the .50 I think Reloader 7 is better using 300 grain bullets than H4198. Mike

In the .50 I think Reloader 7 is better using 300 grain bullets than H4198. Mike Its been more accurate for me using 300 grain bullets. Reloader 7 and H4198 are very close to each other in speed. 64-65 grains of Reloader 7 and a 300 grain bullet is a very accurate load in a .50. Mike
