Well dang! Its even cold down here in NC and windy too
When Herman, Bill and I got to the range at 6:30 a.m. yesterday the thermometer outside our range house was reading 17*. Before long, with two in-fared heaters, one Kerosun, two electric heaters, we had the inside temperature up to around 62 degrees and feeling quite "toasty ;D". Not too much we could do though, with the wind. It didn't appear bad inside but you could see the tops of the trees moving quite a bit. Our 100 yard windmill got run over by someone operating the Massey with the bus hog too close . In any event it was playing with everyone's groups. Because of it, I only shot two groups at 200 and you can see how the bullet holes drifted across the target. It was a little better at 100 but not all that good. One of my experimental groups that produce a 3/4" five shot group a few weeks ago, wanted to groups but just strung out horizontally . Another problem all of us had was mirage..................! It was such that you had a hard time setting the parallax? It was like the target would appear clear for a second and then kind of go blurry, then come back. This happened last week in the early morning but as it warmed up, it disappeared. Yesterday, it did not warm much and we all were bothered by it. It could be that we were shooting from a warm environment into a cold one? The heat from inside doing something screwy? So not much in the way of good groups
Anyway, here are the pictures and the data:
Note: On target #8 at 200 yards? Shot #1 is about 1.5" to the left of the number eight.........I cropped it off
Since putting out my benhrest wind flags is a pain and extremely difficult with the frozen ground, I am in the process of building mini flags. These will have a nose and small vane along with a tail and will mount on the top of my target frames. Not as good a three or four between your rifle and the target, but better than none
