Its gonna be a while before my pacnor gets here but I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row. What method do you use on the barrel break in. Is it the same as when breaking in a centerfire barrel?Wasn't sure since a sabot actually contacts the barrel instead of the bullet itself. Thanks Tim

I doubt that plastic will help with any barrel break in. Long time ago for my ML-I I used 200 swipes with a tight fitting bore patch and JB paste. Every 50 swipes I cleaned the barrel and started afresh. Just don't push it out the muzzle and bring it back in - you might wear the crown a little bit.
Know anybody with a borescope? It may not need anything.

If your shooting with sabots there is no break in at all. No metal to metal contact.

No break in or cleaning required! I have not cleaned mine since before the first range session several weeks ago.Since that time it has had approx. 100 shots through it with 60 grn of N-120.After bringing it in and out of the house this week as part of my torture testing I shot it @100 yds and it was deadon.@ 2 more shots and it printed a nice little .5 in group. This gun will not be touched for another 2 weeks after our muzzy season ends...

tar12-any chance in the off season to launch a few groups say @400yds or so w/that 195barnes to see if groups hold up & get actual drop chart on that bullet at those speeds. i vowed never to go back to plastic but this load has my ears perked & i do have another pac-build in the works.

Trbo.............On a custom lapped ML barrel like your PN, there is no break in....Period! Even on a custom CF benchrest barrel there really is not break in for the barrel itself. What that break in is doing, is smoothing out the throat area. When the throat is cut, there can be some slightly rough sides to the lands in that maybe........1/10" area. With a sharp reamer, there may not be any? So, with a ML, you do not have that throat area to break in. Just go shoot and enjoy. Richard

There is a very good chance of that happening.I do not have enough scope for that but will go with what I have.

i will also add on a cf the recommended cleaning after each shot for 10shots then after approx 5 thereafter= you are removing bullet /powder material & carbon is filling in the rough areas, carbon is not easily removed even with so-called carbon removers, bluing salts while rebluing confirms this imo hence a match-grade barrell usually with less imperfections usually requiring less or no-break-in.

Lilja recommends a barrel break-in procedure very similar to that.
