I was in Illinois for deer season last week and looking forward to taking a deer with my MLII. A nice 8 point buck was about 140 yds out, I put the cross hairs on him, pulled the trigger..... and got a click! The firing pin was not hitting the primer. I worked the bolt sighted again pulled the trigger and again a click. By now the deer was in the trees and I was pretty pissed off. I changed the primer and tried twice more to fire the gun getting clicks each time. On the fifth try the gun fired, but the hunt was over for that afternoon. Back at camp I ran about 10 primers through the gun and it fired each time. I have had the gun for about a year and have put 60-75 rounds through it without a problem. I've shot another 10 rounds since then without a failure. Savage tech service has not heard of this and suggested I was not pulling the trigger correctly though I'm sure I was. Anyone else experienced this or heard of it happening? Any clue as to what might of happened? Was it operator error?

Happened to me a couple times, each case the bolt handle was not down all the way, it will move up slightly causing this problem.

I'm guessing that it sounded more like "CLICK" in the woods. Bummer.

The problem has been around for a while and it is likely real, not just your imagination. In my case it was because the rear action screw, the one at the front of the trigger guard was binding too tightly on the bolt. It had some burrs at the top of the little protrusion on the end of the screw and when I took a fine file to those burrs the problem went away never to return. They probably were the cause of my bolt not fully closing. When I close the bolt now I gently press the accutrigger lever to make sure it feels right. If it doesn't depress down to the trigger proper with almost zero resistance I cycle the bolt and try again.

sorry to hear the problem but like these gents said it exists and is most likely one of the above, likely the bolt not fully down. has happened to me also but not with meat in the crosshairs. always make sure the bolt is fully closed when you get to the stand and check to be sure the rear screw is not overtightened/binding, I never tighten mine past 10 in/lbs

Sometimes when I put a primer on and put the bolt down,my accutrigger arm will be frozen and I have to re-cock it.I finally learned to check it each time.My rear action screw on my synthetic stock was stripped when it came from the factory and i used some Southern Ingenuityto fix it.That is probably why mine does it. Thanks for the info guys, I'll check out the rear action screw and make sure the bolt handle is fully seated from now on, though I've got to say I was slamming that bolt home pretty good after it did not fire a time or two. It's a learning curve I suppose.

Yeah, what RWP, jeremylong and chuck 41 said. Lucky it happened to me at the range well before I was hunting. Just another benefit of lots of range time with a gun before hunting, finding the quirks. I now check the position of bolt handle frequently when hunting, don't even have to look, just feel it. Also did a smooth/polish job on the rear action screw. If there is too much pressure on bolt there are problems. This site and forums have saved me a whole lot of frustration with my MLII. Thanks all. Best, 10 ga
