Smokepole...........There are a number of laminate's available from places like Boyd's and Richard's micro fits and others. Most need to be bedded, at least! Some are pre-finished and others let your hand so the sanding and finishing. Un finished are cheaper but require a good bit of labor and know how. Here is an alternate suggestion and probably a good bit cheaper. Its the DuraMaX Synthetic stock.............Not to be confused with the piece of C _ _ P! Savage puts on. They come with pillars installed and a real nice "soft" recoil pad. They also come in different finishes. Below is a picture of one I just bedded and third pillared for one of our members: Richard

A regular hardwood stock for Savage rifles should fit, with just widening the barrel channel. They are available from Brownells and others. I will be trying this soon myself. One caution- be careful of the action screw spacing. The new spacing is a little different than the old.

Try www.E-gunparts.com. They have some nice Savage stocks that start around $70 and up. Look for a Model 10 or 11 with a blind magazine. You need to know whether your action screws have a 4.25" of 4.40" c-c dimension.

Smoke........it is for the Savage small action. If you want the exact information, PM............."Howa" on this board and ask him.
Spaniel........I have one that has the magazine well filled and is bedded from my ML and it weights exactly 2 3/4 lbs. on a very accurate scale. In the event anyone is wondering what that thing is sticking dwon, just forward of the trigger guard? Thats the thumb screw I install for the bolt release after the third pillar is in. Richard

If you are thinking Boyd's.
The magazine well probably should get filled in. I recycled the aluminum from my stock tuppperware.
The tip of the forearm got drilled to accommodate the ramrod.
Last year they had a sale before Christmas time. I got two, one finished for a model 10 center fire and an unfinished one for the 10 ML. I believe they were 140 or so to the door.
I like the stocks. Even the garish red and black my ML wears.

Smokepole, I bought my wood stock from Nurich's, and I am happy with it. A wood stock is $55, or with the Indian head engraved, $70.

Deadon. I'm confused why can not any stock be cut down with in reason? Jon Thanks for the reply Jon. I may have ask he question the wrong way. I cut my tupperware Savage stock off one" but because it was not solid like a wood stock, I had one H@#$ of a time remounting the butt pad. There was nowhere for the screws to thread into so I had to hand carve a piece of wood to fit so I could screw the butt pad back on. If the replacement stocks are solid, there would be no problem. Thanks again, Rusty

Deadon was "Righton" ;D The inside of the butt on these synthetic stocks are hollow. They have molded in just enough plastic to hold their recoil pad. I did one for one of our members and had to epoxy in a piece of wood, like deadon, to get a place to screw on the Kick-Eze recoil pad. Richard

Most all synthetic, fiberglass/kevlar/whatever stocks are pretty much hollow in the butt. Not a big deal, just a little more work ;D Richard

the Ross Featherweight Thumbhole, I got finished from Boyd's, weighs less than a Savage factory laminated thumbhole. BH
