Some of you may remember that when I first got my PacNor conversion up and running I was trying to work up some of Richard's duplexes using VV110. It is a bit of a drive to the nearest store with powder, so when I got there and they did not have VV but did have H110 I bought it anyways, along with H322 and AA5744, just in case it was close enough. Well, as sw and a few of you kindly informed me H110 is NOT a powder to be using in a smokeless ML due to the fine grain. So I did an H322/AA5744 duplex for my 45 instead which worked out very well (2770 fps with a 200SW, 2 deer down so far). So I ended up with a pound of H110 and no use for it. It seemed like such a waste. Before I knew it a Taurus Tracker Titanium in 41Mag was on the way to my FFL so that the H110 would not feel so un-loved (and, as I justified it to my wife, I would be somewhat safer from grizzlies than with my 40SW). Now last weekend I found myself in possession of a Ruger 44Mag Carbine as well, and am online ordering dies/brass/bullets. Beware bringing home the wrong powder for your ML, it can be an expensive mistake.

Horrible having to buy a gun for powder you have! ;D
My best friend just got a 41 Taurus. I loaded some hand loads for him. 26 grains of H110, Winchester Brass, Win Primer, and 210 Berry flat points made clover leafs at 15 yards. Not bad at all.

I found a boat load of 6mm bullets during a move one time, sell them you think??? oh no, go buy a gun, dies, brass, powder and shoot them up!!! 6mm Rem. 100'/sec faster than a 243, significantly less throat wear -close to twice the barrel life(longer neck), and easier to load and possibly a little more accurate. If only the 244 didn't come out with a 12 twist. Rem, Winchester out smarted you and even the 1 year it took to correct your mistake didn't allow you to recover. Sad. Incidentally, I have a 243, not the 6mm I wish I had. If I had it to do again, and could have only 1CF, it would be either a 6MM Rem or a 25-06, with an 8 or 9 twist.

I used to use 5744 as my primer powder but believe I get more vent liner wear from it than when using 4759 or VV-110. Is this just my imagination or do others find the same?

sw: I have had a 25-06 since 1962. Still satisfied with it.

SW, I have had the same experience with 5744 vs. SR4759 as boosters. With the same loads the SR4759 yields me tighter groups also. Between my son and me we possess three 6mm Rems and a 6mmAI. Too bad they are somewhat obsolete. They are great performers.

I have no frame of reference but the one vent I wore out with 5744 so far did not make it to collecting Social Security, that is for sure. 6mms aren't obsolete any more than the WSMs made the old magnums obsolete. Although I have been lusting after a 243AI for some time.
