When I poked my head out this morning the wind was clipping right along.I just about crawled back into that warm bed! Then I remembered a stand I had in a creek bottom that was sheltered from a s/w wind. I slipped in just as the sky was starting to lighten up.I placed this stand deep enough so I could get the jump on anything that tried to skirt my location to the east.I had a big doe bust me anyway as the wind started to swirl around my location. This time the swirling wind was my friend as she could not pinpoint me and made a fatal mistake and actually came right to me stopping broadside at 60 yds.She froze when she paralleled my location.Just as I started squeezing off the shot she stepped back wards to turn and bolt and the 195 caught her in throat/neck and she went down hard. Curiosity killed her friend as she came up to investigate what happened to her friend.High shoulder/straight down.I am going to get out my daughters .44 rem mag out and try it out now...

Congrats Rick! Im sitting back and waiting on this warm weather to clear out. Im laying off the does until after this weekend. Dans and I are heading to Atterbury this weekend for two days with our Savages. Hes got a .45 Pac Nor and Im shooting my .50 ML I. If I kill a couple more deer there I doubt I'll hunt much more this year. Those two bucks I killed gave me a lot of meat. One buck weighed 200 lbs field dressed and the other was 180 lbs. Butchered both at the same time and took me 10 hours. Mike

Atterbury use to be full of them. They seemed to get smart and hide out in the impact area during gun season. We used to see a ton around OP5 on the west side and south of there to the air-ground range.

Good luck at Atterbury. Is that a draw hunt? Yep, its a draw. We hunted two days and only saw 1 deer. I never saw any. We've hunted area 7 for many years and always produced deer but the last 4 years we've blanked out. We decided on the way home it would be our last hunt there, too far and now too many hassles. Mike
