Work has kept me traveling non stop for months. I finally got a little time today for my son and me to go the local range and fire a few at 100yds. I purchased a Pacnor 45 during the Spring to put on my Henry Ball and sent it to Richard to install the barrel and tweak some other things. During the summer a member here had a thumbhole 45 Pacnor for sale that I purchased. I also sent this gun to Richard for him to give it a once over and change some things. Well today we shot them both for the very first time just to get them close prior to our trip this weekend to the land we hunt to shoot longer yardages and get everything dialed in. I weighed out loads of 62, 63, 64, 65 gr N-120 to try. We only had time today to shoot the 62 gr but I can't imagine it getting much better than it is, but it might. I'm looking forward to shooting at 200 yds and seeing what happens. 2 shots each to get it on paper and then these. There was no swabbing, no waiting between shots and unfortunately I don't own a chronograph. Thanks Richard!!! Kim ;D ;D ;D ;D

I am shooting pretty much the same combo with the exception that I am shooting 60 grn of N120 and Fed 209a.I feel the same way about it getting any better! I am anxious as well to give this combo the long range workout.I have killed 3 deer to date with this combo. The deer hate it! I shot 2 this morning.1@approx. 65 yards and 1@180yards.Complete pass through.Very reminiscent of the BO in terminal performance. One thing of note, Panhandle had a occasional sabot blow at 30 degrees with 65 grns.I am thinking 62-63 will be the sweet spot.BTW,GOOD SHOOTIN!

Thanks,
It has to be the guns and not my son and me. My son has shot 20 shots total in the last 4 years and 10 of those have been the BO with 59 g N-120 blowing through deer. He always has dad get everything ready and he just kills deer. He really likes the new PacNor and the reduced recoil.
I had little doubt about the 195 barnes being effective on deer. I killed bunches for many years with the 250 Redhots out of my Knights prior to switching over to the Savage. Nice to hear the real world results from you however

lundy.... Your first trip to the range looks like mine last Feb. It doesn't take much to get these pac-nors shooting ...It made me chuckle when you described you setting your son's rifle up and then sighting it in and then him killing the deer. That's the way it is with my son-in-law....I get his rifle dialed in and then he gets his deer with it every year.I told him this year that I sighted it in 2' high and 4' to the right so he had to compensate for it. ;D It must of worked ...he got his deer opening morning. These Savages are fun to shoot.....Tar is right 60-62gns is all you'll ever need. I'd probably shoot N120 if I could get it locally. Good luck...Zen

jhm,
Yes they are the new flat based Barnes.
No I did not knurl them.
These two PacNors were made a long time apart. I think the one I bought from the member here was one of the first ones made.
I was real curious to see if I would see any difference in the two in tightness or load preference. They loaded with the same amount of pressure. It's a little early on to know for sure if they will both end up liking the 62 g of N-120 but it looks promising so far. I hope so, it sure makes it easier with two guns and not mixing up our hunting loads with each other.
I tried today for the first time also the take down rod of Mac's. He shortened the 3rd rod to accommodate a spin jag. I tried it just to see what to expect if I need it while hunting. It is slick, very nice indeed.
Panhandle,
I have been getting his hunting stuff ready for him since he was a little boy. You would think by 30years old he would have started doing it himself. Actually I don't mind and he works a bunch of hrs just making ends meet and taking care of his family. I told him if he didn't shoot this weekend and get used to the new setup that he would have to hunt this year with a stick. He showed up today ;D
