So whats everyones opinion on these ventliners? I had bought some ceramic liners from Randy Wakeman. Are the Lehigh better with the domed head? I am reading too much of what you guys have on here,,,lol

the vents I've bought from randy are just harder I think not ceramic. The lehighs hold up about as well, cost a hair less so I get them.

RW's liners are not ceramic just hardened, I have switched to the Lehighs for both my savage as well as the Disc 45.

Can not comment on the RW VLs NVR used them. Have beeen using the Lehigh's for around sixty shots on one so far, has performed superbly, MUCH better design than the factory VL. You IMHO can not go wrong in trying them. $20 per four is a fair price, again IMO.
I much, much prefer the allen hole in the Lehigh VL to the factory VL, in that it is with out a doubt far less likely to strip out under stress VS the Savage VL. But I wrap mine in Teflon type and place a few drops of REMoil on the wraped threads. Have gone 30+ shots with max loads of H-4198 & RL-10X and the Lehigh requiered only minimal force to be loosened and removed.
Have not let it sit for a extended period while hunting though, so will see what happens this year.
Arthur.

I have a few Lehigh VLs, but haven't tried them yet. I need to get an Allen Wrench the correct size as the Savage size is too large, and I seem to have lost the proper one, if I ever had one. Can someone post the correct size needed? BH

so what youre saying is the Savage VL allen wrech size is larger than the Lehigh? Arthur states that the lehigh are less likely to strip out.UGH,,,Im confused.........

the lehigh has a deeper allen hole and that's why it's less likely to strip out

I have used factory vents exclusively for the life of my gun which is surely over 1,000 shots by now. Probably 80% of the loads have been straight H4198.
I will say this: I have only replaced one liner because of a orifice size getting too big. At times I replace them just to have a new one after 100 shots.
I also haven't stuck one in many years, or found them difficult to remove. I put a dab of anti seize on the threads. I also usually pull and clean the plug/vent before letting 20 shots go down the barrel. Last year I never cleaned my gun after season and when I opened the bolt in September of this year, my last spent primer was still in the holder from when I unloaded. The plug came right out and so did the vent.
I have a suspicion that different powders as well as pressures have an effect on both the stickyness of our vents as well as their life span. I personally have no reason based on my experience to switch to an after market vent.
Just my 2 cents

I got 300 shots out of a Lehigh vent with my 45. Changed it out just because I figured it was time to do so, not due to any accuracy issues. I checked it with a torch tip cleaner set when I first installed it. The tip that would go in was an .031. Then I took it out I checked it again and the next size larger tip I had, (.035), would not go in. All shots were with H4198 and 200g bullets in the 2600 to 2750 fps range. I think they are well worth the price. I'm on my 2nd one and I've only put about 150 rounds through it. I'm gonna keep this one in until

I never could get my fool proof loads to group with the Lehigh's so I went back to RW's and everything fell right back in place. Wish I hadn't wasted my money on'em.

I drilled my own. RW's vents burned through quickly for me. I was using IMR4198. Started making my own and the vents I made will last all season. I made over 90. So I just throw them out when I start sighting in and plinking getting ready for the new season. Should last me my lifetime.
