How do you fellows fire your first shot with a modified smokeless ml? Also with a new load? Do you clamp it in a vise, hide behind a tree and use a long string to pull the trigger, or do you just shoot it like it was a factory original?
Thanx,
JohnP

First and foremost, what type of mod. gun are you attempting to shoot? 50 or 45? There are plenty of starting points. We need details to know if you are in trouble before you even get started.

It will be an Encore 45-70 converted to smokeless. Will no doubt be a SMI breechplug. Will not be sabotless. Will start with 200 gr. SST's & H4198.
Thanx, JohnP

Thanx, JohnP The first shot from a smokeless ML will always have a pucker factor You have a firearm of known quality and with a proven breechplug. Use a proven load, and don't expect the first shot to hit anything, then get down to business. edge.

Edge, That pucker factor is still very fresh in my memory bank! I got my first "module" gun and at that point in time did not realize or know there was a Dougs. I remember thinking the I hope the fool that built this gun dont get my fool head blown off! ;D It was a huge leap in faith!

I still have my ml1 which I which I may modify the b/p on to use a brass but will do my best to never give it up it would be easy to go back to the OEM plug. For other reasons I now have a dangerous game machine rest. So I am probably cheating. The other reason for the rest the gun I'm presently building will have a lot of pucker power. But thanks to a lot of people on the board I feel a lot more confident. And just to let it be known a lot of the help was from people that didn't know they they were helping. So keep up the great posts. It has helped me and others on a number of occasions. Jon
