I have seen 2 ea Winchester model 70's made in the 80's that have the barrel/action taken out of the stock. The hot glue used to bed the action simply falls apart. It is either cracked and not adhered or soft and peals off leaving improper contact between action and stock. I can't believe Winchester can let this defect happen with standing behind their product. The guns would not shoot well after this and move all over or off the target as the barrel heats up. The owners must now pay for a glass bedding job at their expense. Has Winchester ever acknowledged this flaw and will they do something about it?

Maybe that's part of the reason they went out of business, spoze?? Buy those cheap push feeds, they shoot good. Ken

Beyond the fact the company making Winchester rifles at that time (80's) went out of business...and the current company making winchester rifles has no relationship with the former company...what are you expecting? Did the original owners of these rifles buy some special 30 year warrenty on the rifles at time of purchase that would guarantee the accuracy of the rifle and that nothing would ever need repair or replacement over 20 to 30 years?
The mod 70 is a fine rifle, spend a few bucks to have them rebedded or do it yourself.

I've got one of those Model 70's that had the hot glue recoil lug bedding job. I easily bedded the recoil lug with JB Weld and free floated the barrel and now it's the most accurate rifle I own. Like you, when I first saw it I couldn't believe my eyes. Zen
