Good morning Gents, quick question. Should the primer fit completely inside the breech plug? Might sound really foolish, but I have been using Federal 209A,and they seem to work.. Bolt closes easily etc....just never checked if the primer fits completely down the plug up to the primer collar. Thank you

If the bolt closes, and it goes BANG when you pull the trigger, your in business IMHO.
Good luck and enjoy your Savage its a fine rifle.

I assume that you have a stock ML-II. Since it has rifled sights the headspace will be dependent on the location of the sights, which are always at 12 o'clock. The Breechplug has a thread that makes 1/16 inch movement per rotation. The Blot must close, so from Zero headspace to max headspace shoudl not exceed 1/16 inch. Here is an approximate sketch: A sketch of the relationship between the Boltface, Primer, and Breechplug : edge.
