I shot this nice 8 pointer about ten minutes into my hunt this morning. He came up the same trail I used to get to the stand, so I guess that Scent Away stuff works after all. Savage 10ML-II / 250 XTP I phoned my buddy, who was hunting in another block nearby. He said that he had just rattled up a nice buck with heavy and wide main beams, but that the deer got away before he could get a shot off. I told him to take his time and keep hunting. We'd get mine out whenever he was ready. I climbed back into the stand and tried to call in some coyotes, unsuccessfully. In about 30 minutes, he called me back and said that he'd changed positions and gotten ahead of the buck again. He rattled him in a second time and this time he closed the deal. I went and helped him recover his buck, and then we got mine out. Not a bad morning!

Got one more on Friday morning. He walked to within 10 yards of me, and I was on the ground in the oaks. I also had a bear (in season) walk by at about 35 yards Friday afternoon, but I couldn't get a shot that I had total confidence in, so I passed him up. The oaks have been where it's happening here this year.
