I always try to pick my shots at game so that I get a clean kill.
I haven't kept track of every deer I have shot over the years but, whether with a centerfire rifle or since I started hunting with a muzzleloader, I have done pretty good with most of my animals killed with a single shot. A few others were hit twice but some of those were walking dead after the first shot.
Since purchasing my ML2 last year it has been fired at deer eight times with eight deer killed. Last year it killed three, two of which were taken by a friend of mine. He was (is) a novice hunter with absolutely zero hunting experience but he wanted to try it so I offered to help him. I lent him my Savage while I carried my older gun. Soon enough a small buck offered a close, standing, broadside shot. It died five yards from where the fatal shot had been fired.
This year the Game Department is offering free whitetail tags (antlerless deer only) to try to reduce the deer herd in an area close to city in which I live. I have worked to gain access to some excellent hunting areas and it has been working well for me this year. In the five days I have hunted this year I was able to take five deer with five shots. I went home empty one day but made up for it on the subsequent hunt when I shot a nice doe then quickly reloaded and took down another that didn't run off.
I know this run of luck will not last indefinitely and I may have jinxed myself by making this post but I am curious to learn of other ML2 users perfect runs

Haven't hunted with my Savage 45 yet but there was a time with my old sidelock smokepole that I went 3 years and 14 deer with heart shots all (open sights within 100 yards). I missed a shot a couple years back because I got lazy and did not use my rangefinder when I should have, but before that I can't remember my last miss....7-8 years and 30-40 deer I'd guess.

When I'm filling tags, I always shoot the big one first. I've kind of lost track of how many (somewhere around 8), but since last October when I started hunting with my 45 PCNR I haven't let anything get away. Have had a couple that required a dispatch shot, but haven't had to trail anything.

Had another great year with the MLII. I went 6/6 with my longest being 178 yds this year. Picked up a shooter 8 and 165lb doe on a rapid reload drill.
I still have a few tags to fill, but I think I am going to wait until ML season to go back out. My wife is currently working on her chops with the ML2 so hopefully she can put down the 357 and step up.
I actually recovered a 300gr barnes this year after taking a frontal shot. I have picked up several 180 gr 44mag bullets in the past from my blackhawk, but this is the first barnes from the ML.
Thank you all for your efforts in the past several years to put this program together.
I would like further my investigation in the 358 BFG. Does anybody have info they would be willing to share to get me started.
Thanks again

My longest shot ever was with a Traditions Buck hunter muzzle loader @237 yards off hand. To boot it was a small doe. I held the gun at the top of her back and squeezed the trigger. Down went the doe.
Ive hunted with single shot guns most of my life so having only one shot is natural to me. I found if you wait the game will usually always present you with a good shot. I think having a gun with multiple shots gets a man a little antsy because he knows hes got more rounds if he misses. Mike

My toltal with 12ga slug guns is 27 deer taken with 29 shots, no lost deer.
Muzzleloders is 11 deer taken with 11 shots no lost deer, one elk with one shot.
FWIW, 25 deer taken with 26 shots with my bow (yes had one deer let me take 2 shots at him, got him on shot No#2) and one deer lost. Have cleaned missed more bucks than I care to admit to and 7 or 8 does.

Basically you need a large shank Savage action and can order the screw-on barrel. Brass can be ordered ready to load (relatively expensive) or you can learn to expand/fireform and make your own.
