I have another Accura in the mail. I needed another good ML for my boys to use and this one was a good deal so I'll be working up a .45 here in about a week or so. Hopefully I'll have it ready for late ML season.
Thanks, Smokepole50

The most accurate sabot load in mine was 100-110gr of BH209 and the 200gr SST with supplied tan sabot. My barrel seems a tad loose (.452+) so a Harvester Blue might work better in others.
Conicals.... the best was the Precision Rifle 360gr Ultimate with the poly tip and about 80-90gr. These would shoot into one hole with 80gr and under 1.5" with 90gr.
80-90gr and a 180gr GoldDot or XTP has shot fantastic also but i use those mostly for the range.

i'd also give the 225-275-223 platinum and 300gr platinum powerbelts a try.

Mine also did well with the 300gr PB Plat. Personally i wouldnt use the lighter ones if the 300s shoot well for you. I also wouldnt go over about 95gr with them either. 100gr shot ok but 120gr was a grenade on impact. LOL..i had to try it once Using only 95gr and 4 different shooters the group was about 1.5" at 90 yards in our shootout.

I must say I am a bit disappointed in the choices of .45/40 bullet combinations that are out there. The rifle has not even arrived and I am second guessing my decision to buy this .45 Accura because it looks like $1.50 a shot no matter what bullet you chose unless it is a .45 all lead conical. I guess I should have done my homework better before buying it. I have been so caught up in the accuracy of the .50 Accura that I thought I could go .45 cal, use a .40 bullet and really reach out there with a flatter shooting bullet.
I am sorry but "Powerbelt" is not a bullet I want to shoot, to manny stories of wounded/lost deer and misfire's for me to even start in that direction. The 200gr SST looks to be about the best deal for accuracy and price but I will have to check out the 185 and 200gr DOA as well. The Barnes line is a good bullet as well, can you buy these in bulk at cheaper prices? Should I order Harvester Blue CR or smooth sabots to use with the DOA and SST if needed.
I did not by this rifle to shoot light loads when I am behind the trigger. When I pass it on to one of my sons I can load it down for them but I want a 2300+fps 200gr bullet.
Thanks, Smokepole50

40-200gr XTPs ($22/100) are cheap enough but 2300fps is going to take a little fine tuning and exceeds that bullet's designed velocity by a good amount.
Like i said, my bore in a fair amount larger than my Elite 45 so you may want some MMP/Hornady tans and Harvester Blue Smooths. The Crushribs might be a bit too loose. They are in mine unless i used a .406 caliber bullet. Occasionally a 41mag 210gr bullet will even work with them in a loose bore.

I was wondering about a 41 Mag bullet. My .50 shoots the .458 Rem bullets very well. I guess I'll order some smooth Blue Harvesters first.
Do you think 2300 fps is attainable with BH209 and a 200gr bullet?

I never tried pushing a 200gr that fast in my Accura 45 so im not sure. It probably would but the charge will likely exceed CVA's max recommended charge by 20%. Ive shot mine with upto 110gr with good results using 200gr SSTs. That load is probably a bit less than 2300fps but appeared to be safe.
Inspect your primers after shooting hot loads. They begin to flow into the firing pin bushing as you approach max. That and accuracy will tell you if you are getting too hot.

I'm shooting a CVA Apex .45 cal. Here are some other options. These loads should translate to the .45 cal. CVA Accura .
260g Precision Rifle Dead Center's, 100g BH209, CCI 209M Primers. This was my hunting load for Kansas Muzzleloader season. 200g Hornady SST with Harvester Plain sabot (light blue), 90g BH 209, CCI 209M
Lately I've been trying to work up a load with 185g brass Lehigh bullet with Harvester "Tan" sabots & 200g brass Lehigh bullet with Harvester "Tan" sabots

muzzlenutIm assuming you meant "MMP Tan" in your last 2 loads. Both Harvesters 45x40s are blue...to my knowledge. MMP makes tan 45cal sabots and they used to make a brown for Knight and i believe a green for T/C. Hornady 45x40 tans are also made by MMP. Precision Rifle also uses a lot of MMP sabots. Their 45x40 is also tan. I forgot about the PRs boat tails. I tried the 45x40 QT 250gr and it was pretty good at 1900-1950fps with 100gr of Bh209. That may sound slow but it still carries a lot of knock down past 230 yards.

I just measured these for a reference with a SST
Loaded OD Harvester Smooth Blue=.454 MMP tan=.456 Knight Brown=.457
Measured by another forum member with a 180gr XTP T/C Green=.459
He also measured the same ones i did and got the same loaded OD.
If your Accura has the same .452+ bore like mine then the MMP will usually shoot better. If its .450-.451 then the Harvesters might be better.

Thanks so very much GMB54. I really appreciate it. That is some great info to have. Hopefully my bullet/sabot's will get here today along with my Waren rings and bases. I hope to get this .45 ready for late ML season but with Rifle season coming in tomorrow is will be a challange. Regards, Smokepole

My new Accura V2 .45 showed up today. Gonna mount a Burris 4.5x14 on it tonight and start shooting tomorrow, I cant wait. Gonna start out with 200 SST's and 195 Barnes and see what I can work up. Eventually hope to switch to 200 FTX sabotless by days end. If it shoots as good as my other CVA's I know I wont be dissapointed. Fit and finish on the new CVA's has definitely improved and as long as accuracy hasnt dropped off any it'll be my gun of choice.
